New m&p 9mm owner with issues..
Took my new m&p 9mm (4.25 size) To its first range trip,,and first 70 rounds down range I had 3 failures to feed,,, and erratic ejection ,, and one mag that just lost tension after firing 1 round,, like the follower got hung up,,
Used 2 different types of ammo,,(federal 115 ball, wwb 115 ball)
I have 3 (17 round) mags
Is this just a bad one from the factory? I have heard great things about these,, I came home after range trip , cleaned,, then took apart mags, cleaned & oiled,, will take back to range this week to see if problems continue with different ammo,, any help would be appreciated ,,

Did you clean it before shooting? May have some new gun gunk in it. Sounds like standard new gun issues to me. I'd be willing to bet that next time since you cleaned it will probably work fine as long as you put everything back together correctly.Make sure you don't over oil the gun too.

I have bought M&P's that were packed with gunk, I wonder how they got the test shot off or if they pack it in afterwards.
Always clean a new gun thoroughly before firing.

I think we solved this issue in the below sub-forum, see URL if there is anyone other than Ortiz11b that wants to see a solution.

I had a similar problem with my FS40 factory mags. Took it apart, cleaned, re-assembled and haven't had a problem since. I usually use WWB for range/practice due to price and availability. It does dirty up the mags quicker than other brands. I usually clean the mags every couple of range trips.

158grain,
This isn't an ammo issue, it's a magazine design flaw. See the URL I posted previously.

Just an update, I had a full day at the range yesterday and put about a total of 400 rounds through all 4 of my mags which I installed gen 1 followers into, courtesy of Don Degray at Smith & Wesson. NOT A SINGLE MALFUNCTION!

I have a 9mm FS and probably have at least 4-5000 rnds through it and never had a malfunction in firing. The slide lock tab broke off last year, which S&W promptly repaired and I had one case hang up in the chamber and had to knock it out. This I assume to have been a case problem. I shoot mostly my reloads.

rrockefe,
Are you a left handed shooter with the mag release switched over to the right side of the pistol? If not, none of the mag malfunction issues will apply to you. For some reason, this is only occurring with lefties who are switching the mag release.
