Default Shield 9mm laser question

Has anyone mounted a laser on thier shield. If so what brand, aprox price and how did it work out for you. Thiking along those lines but not sure it's worth the $129-239 price. I usually carry concieled so will require a different holster also to figure in the cost. Just wondering if the expenduature might be worth it and what any of you think.

Lasers are a distraction. Nothing more than a movie gimmick. Save your money and spend it on something useful like ammo for practice.

On my standard 9mm shield I mounted a TLR6 that I picked up new on eBay for $50. It adds some girth but I like the light/laser combo. Mounted easy and so far so good. On my LC9 I have a crimson trace which I really like as it comes on automatically when grip it.

As far as holsters go you will find more options with a Crimson Trace than most others.

Default Viridian Laser sight

I mounted a green viridian laser sight on mine and it fits like a glove. Two (-) issues: It uses a lot of battery life and the factory supplied holster no longer fits. On the plus side, The viridian comes with a holster that has a magnetic switch which turns the laser on when drawing and turns it off when holstering. The only change I would consider is getting it in the red laser as battery life is longer.

I bought the Crimson Trace for my 9mm Shield and love the fit and the fact that I don't need to turn it on with a physical switch. It came with an IWB holster but I still use my pocket holster.

I have the red Viridian on my 9mm Shield. I get the question all the time about lasers from my students. It is a great addition to your CC guns if you are willing to put in the practice. But that is with all your gear. You must still practice using your iron sights and use the laser as a back-up. I am a little faster on the draw when I speed up with a laser. I like the fact that if I needed to I can fire from the hip and hit a small target with a laser.
But only get a laser that turns on by itself on the draw. If you need to push a switch to turn it on when all hell breaks you might be in trouble. You don't need anything to turn on that might slow you down.
I also carry a Sig 320RX with the red dot sight on occasion. The red dot turns on by itself. I can shave a few 10s of a second with it over the iron sight.

Crimson Trace (green) from the factory...but you need to laser bore sight it as it was off from the factory. High and to the left.

I just purchased a Shield 9mm 2.0 with the integrated Crimson Trace green laser.

I am a retired Chicago Police Homicide Detective and have to qualify with LEOSA every year in Arizona where I live to be able to carry concealed in all 50 States under that Federal Law.

One of the stings of fire on the course we shoot (same exact course active duty Arizona officers have qualify on) is 7 rounds from the 25 yard line, in two strings of timed fire.

On a good day I could perhaps put 4 or five in the kill zone of the silhouette target at that distance.

Here is a small silhouette target that is roughly the entire kill zone of the one I qualify on. I was using this target to zero in the laser and the shots on the bottom were the initial shots, the ones higher up were me overcorrecting the sight, and the ones in the middle were when the sights were dialed in.

Every shot was taken with the pistol being taken up to heart level chest height, not to eye lever. Some of the shots were high, some low, till the laser was dialed in, all were on target, something I could never do with iron sights!

If this is a distraction, let me be distracted every time I have to pull the trigger!

This feature to me is great on any shot taken at a distance of over 10 yards or one handed, anything under 10 yards the iron sights will suffice. Turning the laser off and on with the button wasn't that hard to aquire, took me about 1/2 a day of practice, since when I normally draw a weapon I have my trigger finger extended off of the trigger along side exactly where the button is located.

This pistol, with this laser, blows any of the other single stack 9mms I have owned out of the water, dumped my Glock and my Walther PPS M2 after acquiring it. I had already dumped my Sig P365 for lingering reliability issues and the fact mine, with a born date of 28 June 2018 still had really severe striker drag on the primers. With the Magguts +2 kits in the flush fit mag, turning it into a 9 round mag with only 1/4" more length, the P365 has absolutely nothing over this shield!

Not sure why...but there is more than one model CT Green laser for the Shield. Mine has the switch directly under the mag release and is actuated by squeezing my middle finger. It's a pressure sensitive switch. It was factory installed.(model LG489G) The other has the on/off button on the laser unit itself and is actuated by your index finger. Which requires taking your finger off the trigger to turn on/off. I imagine the CT red lasers are also two different models. I'm talking just about the CT's not other brands. Also someone stated that the type Chazman1946 has on his...the entire unit needs to be taken off to change the battery...not the case with the model I have...just the left side of the guard needs to be removed to swap the battery. I've swapped batteries and do not have to resight the laser in (although I do check it with a laser bore sight each time) Maybe it's got something to do with the stimpling difference of the gun (1.0 vs 2.0) why there's two different CT models , I don't know, but I prefer the pressure sensitive switch model. Also I have a Hogue sleeve on my 1.0 which required me to trim around the switch with an Xacto knife. I love it...very comfortable gun to hold. Also remember clicking a laser on and leaving it on, not only wears your battery down faster...but at night also gives your position away. Squeeze my middle finger it's on...lighten up it's off...but my index finger never has to come off the trigger. Using a laser gives you an option...I can stand/crouch behind or shoot around something and take aim without having to fully expose my body to line up my iron sights...comes in handy if that person is shooting back with an AR15 with 30 rds....they're not just a movie gimmick!

Many shooters say not to get a red dot or laser, they are just wasteful gimmiks. That depends on where you are on the continuim of time.
We will all reach the time when that pesky front sight is hard to see, let alone focus.
Then we have to see/focus three separate areas (Rear Sight, Front Sight, and Target) all at once.

The laser and target are both the same distance, so you only have to focus on one point. And you can focus that distance without having to carry, and quickly put on, reading glasses.

When you reach that age, the "wasteful gimmiks" suddenly become Godsends.
You don't shoot "better", but now you can see what you are shooting better.

Also; even if you have perfect eye sight, if the laser lets you keep both eyes open, it does wonders for your periphial vision.

I wish you long life. If granted, you too will carry a laser or red dot.

Well written. We have CT lasers on every gun that could possibly be used for defense. When I consider a pistol, my first step is to check if CT has a laser for it. If not, I move on. Keeping both eyes open and being able to see ALL of the bad guy vs only seeing from POA up is huge. What is he doing w/ his hands? W/ iron sights in use who knows. You can't see his hands because your hands and your gun are blocking your view. About a year ago I was at the range practicing. I can blade the target and then have it turn and face me for any number of seconds I want before it blades again. From low ready I was trying to get 2 hits in 3 seconds on a 3 inch dot at 30 feet. 50 rnds w/ iron sights, 50 rnds w/ the laser. All I can say is, when I went back to iron sights, I was immediately slower w/ maybe 25% only getting one hit. Not that the hit was way off the dot, the problem was I only got one shot in that 3 seconds because sights are slower. After the first mag full back w/ irons all I could think of was, dang this is so old school it's crazy.

I can usually at least understand other people's opinions, even if I disagree. However, I have never been able to understand the disdain some people have for lasers. They only help or add benefits with no downside. The biggest benefit they provide is the ability to place very accurate fire on target from less than ideal, even awkward, positions. I guess an argument could be made that some people will only practice with the laser and then, if the laser fails, they will not be proficient enough to fire with iron sights. This may be true; but, sad as it is, even those people are allowed to vote.

I bought the Crimson Trace to add to my 2.0 full size and would guess they have one that fits a Shield. Got the green one because I read that they work better in all light situations.
The opinions shared here about having a laser are pretty much all true.
What I personally forgot to account for is point of impact change depending on distance.
Mine is for home protection only so carry is no an issue.

The green laser on my Shield 2.0 is infinitely more visible then the red lasers I have used in the past. Took my pistol out onto my back yard and pointed at the back wall about 15 yards away and it was easy to see, and this was in broad daylight in Arizona.

That is my experience also.
Amp, I see that also. I adjust so the laser is on at about 30 feet and forget about it. I figure it may hit 3/4 inch high real close which I can live with and doubt I would be shooting at further than 30 ft. If I did need to shoot at 60 feet I think it would hit about 3/4 inch low.

My first experiment with laser's was with a cheap unit that clamped to the trigger guard of my Model 64. I don't see them as gimmicky. Since then I've purchased CT red lasers for my Sig P250, Sp101, .44 Bulldog, .22 LCR, Ruger PC 9 and my 10/22. All my lasers are sighted in to 50'.

That's not the case since the laser unit is integrated into the frame, all you have to do is unscrew the release on the laser battery and then pop open the trap door in the frame and pull out the old battery and pop a new one in.

Was taking a closer look at the CT unit you have on your's in comparison to mine. Although they both mount in the same location...they are considerably different.
