Colt 3x20 scope mount ?
I have a friend,.... no it is true...... He has a 3x20 colt scope he would like to mount on his new ar-15. The issue is it has a mount screwed to the scope for use on a carry handle. He has a flat top with a pickatinny rail. He does not want the carry handle type mount. Does any body know if there is a retro mount to switch to a pickatinny mount or if he can remove the screws and carry handle and use a 20mm ring set up on the rail and scope?

Close , But no cigar. This is a picture of the colt scope. He will need to remove the mount that is on it.That is were the problem lies.

I have a scope like that. I've never seen an option that worked with removng the integrated mount from the scope. The pic I posted illustrates the integrated carry handle mount fitting into a picatinny mount which can then be attached on an AR flat top. Thise old Colts are excellent. Be caitious of jerry-rigging and ruining the scope.

So , what you are saying is the bottom of the handle mount is removed and then the scope is attached to the pickatinny mount? That would be fine. Who makes the lower part in your picture?

If the bottom of the mount you mean the spring nut, yes. Just uses a regular thumb nut. Leapers and UTG make the unit in the pic, but I'd guess someone makes a quality mount.
Those Colt scopes are designed to sit very low onto the carry handle without a great deal of cheek weld shift. Unless there is some special need, a carry handle would be my choice.

That is an original scope for the AR-15. I dont think there were any flat top versions out yet. I have never seen any conversion mounts. Best to sell that one and get what he wants. Or use a detachable carry handle.
That is a very good scope. I would like to have one for my 9mm AR-15.
