I think Wolf Gold uses bi-metal brass instead of the normal coated steel in their other lines.

I bought some and it has worked well. However, I've been having trouble getting good neck tension reloading the brass.

But for good value brass case plinking rounds I don't think you can go wrong for the price.

i used that ammo:
1. smells like pure rubbish
2. the recoil increases by at least 25% from say, PMC .223

- i dont find this ammo "worth it". i'd rather pay $1 more per box and get PMC

Wolf Gold is brass case, copper FMJ, lead core, non-magnetic, loaded to M193 spec. The primer prockets have a military crimp and are sealed. There is also sealant at the neck of the cartridge.

First of all, you judge the ammo by the way it smells? That's a first for me.

Second, Wolf Gold is loaded to 5.56 NATO (M193) spec, not .223 Remington. The increased pressure and perceived recoil impulse is to be expected.

Just in case you don't know:
"The cartridge casings for both calibers have basically the same length and exterior dimensions.
The 5.56 round, loaded to Military Specification, typically has higher velocity and chamber pressure than the .223 Rem.

The 5.56 cartridge case may have thicker walls, and a thicker head, for extra strength. This better contains the higher chamber pressure. However, a thicker case reduces powder capacity, which is of concern to the reloader.

The 5.56mm and .223 Rem chambers are nearly identical. The difference is in the "Leade". Leade is defined as the portion of the barrel directly in front of the chamber where the rifling has been conically removed to allow room for the seated bullet. It is also more commonly known as the throat. Leade in a .223 Rem chamber is usually .085". In a 5.56mm chamber the leade is typically .162", or almost twice as much as in the 223 Rem chamber.

You can fire .223 Rem cartridges in 5.56mm chambers with this longer leade, but you will generally have a slight loss in accuracy and velocity over firing the .223 round in the chamber with the shorter leade it was designed for.
Problems may occur when firing the higher-pressure 5.56mm cartridge in a .223 chamber with its much shorter leade. It is generally known that shortening the leade can dramatically increase chamber pressure. In some cases, this higher pressure could result in primer pocket gas leaks, blown cartridge case heads and gun functioning issues. The 5.56mm military cartridge fired in a .223 Rem chamber is considered by SAAMI (Small Arm and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute) to be an unsafe ammunition combination. "

The brass might need to be annealed.

There is no such thing as "bi-metal brass". There is plated brass (which Wolf ammo is not), but that is not "bi-metal brass".

Bi-metal brass is a figment of someone's imagination, probably made up as a way to disparage Wolf Gold ammo and sound like its scientifically backed up disparagement, not total BS.

Wolf Gold is good stuff...period.

Wolf gold has been made by a few different companies. I don't know who makes it now but at one point it was made in Taiwan and in Serbia

The ammunition is mostly manufactured by Tulskiy Patronniy Zavod (Tula Cartridge Plant) in Tula, Tula District, Russia.

That was not a disparaging comment. Wolf is not the only one that is listed with bi-metal brass. Some Lake City is listed that way as well. Whether is actually bi-metal or not, I can't really say. Maybe it is listed that way because of the discoloration from the annealing process.

Sorry if I ruffled some feathers.

Little Trees will fix that smell thing. And.....since I shoot an AR, I doubt I'd notice that recoil increase anyway. It may be time to pry some cash out and order some of it.

Price is pretty much back to pre-Sandy Hook levels. I wouldn't expect it to go down much more.

What I would expect is for prices to skyrocket the next time there is a shooting of any sort or even a rumor of some new government restrictions. Seen any cheap M855 lately?

Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

^^^ This.

After meeting your financial obligations...

After securing the consumables and necessities of life...

After meeting your savings goals...

After taking care of the family's "fun budget"...

Then go and buy ammo.

Same thing around here. Cindy (the wife) is better with a 40 cal (both of our EDC choice...her Glock 23 and me Glock 22) than I am and loves ongoing training and practice, and Sarah (the 15 year old daughter) is the most potentially lethal teen you know, both with an AR AND unarmed.

Ammo for birthdays, ammo for anniversaries, ammo for Christmas, ammo for the hell of it...

Keep an eye out for the ammo linked below:

CCI Blazer 9mm Luger Ammo 115 Grain Full Metal Jacket

CCI Aluminum Case 115gr FMJ. Free shipping on case orders.

If the ranges nearby did not ban the use of steel case bi-metal jacket, I'd buy cases of this:

1000 rounds - 9mm Luger 115 grain FMJ Steel case Wolf WPA Polyformance or Military Classic Ammo - Made in Russia by Barnaul | SGAmmo.com

CCI Blazer 40 S&W Ammo 180 Grain Full Metal Jacket

^ Good stuff. Great for practice. The only downside is non-reloadable aluminum cases, but not a big deal for me. I don't load .40. I don't want to go through the additional hassle of pushing .40 brass shot from my Glock 22 through a bulge buster.

That figures to $340.00/1000.
Here's what I use. Its the same specs as Cindy and my carry ammo...165 gr Speer Gold Dots...and cheaper to boot:

I ordered a case of Wolf Gold yesterday around 10:00 am from SGAMMO and it was at my door today when I got home. Now that was some fast service! I have bought from them before and have always been pleased. I am anxious to try the wolf gold and have read many good reviews on it. My sport will eat steel case just fine, but I prefer to feed it brass and use steel case in my commie weapon.

The Armory = $299.99 shipped
SGAmmo = $315.90 shipped
TargetSports = $319.50 shipped

That's a price difference range of $19.81 (0.00198¢ per round).

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Therefore, all brass is bi-metal.

Anyone get a stuck case yet under fast firing? I had some cheaper bearnuls (Can't remember spelling) but the neck was sealed. The stuff caked in my chamber and made cases get stuck so horribly a cleaning rod and BFH were the only ways to remove the brass.

Nope. My math is wrong. I was splitting my attention between typing and yelling at the TV during the Chicago Blackhawks v Nashville Predators game...and a fermented carbonated barley based beverage.

At the highest the difference is 2¢ (rounded up) per round.

You're right. Memorial day sales are around the corner and promotional sales might occur.

Wolf Gold (brass case, not steel) under 26 a round at at least one major supplier.

It is Taiwanese M193 military loadings, not eastern euro 223 steel stuff.

Nope. I've have not had any issues with Wolf Gold. Polymer coated or zinc plated steel case .223 ammo isn't problematic either.

Did the Barnul ammo you used look like this?

If so, then this particular type of Barnul ammo is steel case, bi-metal jacket, lacquer coated ammo. The lacquer coating on the case melted, gumming up your chamber. It's not the projectile sealant inside the neck of the cartridge causing you the issue.

The SG stuff comes in at $.316 a round.

Thanks.

I have been dinged way too many times for posting links, sorry.

You really should have one of the ammo search engines bookmarked, wiki and slick should get you aimed in the right direction.

Look again, .255 a round, min 500 round purchase, Wolf GOLD, boxer primed, brass case, lead core, no steel in jacket or case.

A couple of drops of Kroil oil down the bore wait about thirty seconds guarantee will unstick just about anything stuck in the chamber.

It would cost you nothing to post the name of the supplier. I've never been dinged for posting a link to an ammo supplier and it's not against the rules.

Yup. 18 dollars for shipping.

So without membership it is 32 cents a rounds. With membership it is 29 cents a round(without factoring in cost of membership just members price)

So not true 25 26 cents a round. I always factor shipping into my ppr

An alloy consisting of two metals in not bimetal. Bimetal is two metals layered, not mixed as with an alloy.
