Miami Vice used the BDA [Sig 220] in the pilot. 1st season a Bren 10, next season a 645, then a 4506. GARY

Tom Cruise took a 4506 or similar gun from a dead security guard near the end of the movie "Collateral".

Not a 3rd Gen but Dennis Hopper used a Md 39 in the climax of the David Lynch movie "Blue Velvet".

Reservoir Dogs was primarily 2nd Gens, I believe.
IMFDB.com is a good source to look those up. You can search by gun type.

They are in a lot of shows and movies. NCIS LA the LAPD character uses a 5906 or 5946. Danzel Washington has used the 4506 in several movies (Two guns & Training Day). 5906 is Dt. Danny Reagan's side arm in the 1st season of Blue Bloods.

That IMFDB site is truly outrageous! It is the net result of hardcore gun-TV-movie geeks putting their energy in to a fun resource. It is NOT a little simple website, there is a crazy volume of data covered there. I am further impressed every time I visit.

A recent couple of S&W sightings I will add to this thread...
Breaking Bad. 4506 in the pilot episode and many seasons later a 945 in the hands of the bad guy that Walt runs over with his car. I can't recall if it's Walt or Jesse that picks that 945 up and has to use it on another thug, but one of them does.

Dark Blue had a few in it. Kurt Russell carried a 4506.

Keanu Reeves carried a 3rd Gen in Speed. I think it was a 3914.

Wesley Snipes used a 3913NL in Demolition Man.

Danny Glover carries a 3rd gen in a shoulder holster in Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4. I think it was a 5906. But, he still had his trusty M19 on his belt.

While none of the Hawaii Five O characters carry one a lot of the HPD uniforms look like they carry the 5906.

He used a Beretta 92fs for a couple of seasons. Even mentioned why he liked it. Manual safety and loading from open slide. Saved him in a gun grab when bad guy pointed it at him and it clicked instead of banged. He always carried it safety on. Now he's got a 5904 blued. Never explained the switch

It was the 5946 which is accurate since that's an approved NYPD gun. Then he went to a Kahr K9 which is also accurate since that was an approved NYPD gun for a few years. No longer authorized since 2011 and guys who had them were SOL and told to sell them or keep them as a range gun, but not allowed to carry them. The job wanted the K9 to have a 13 pound trigger and Kahr couldn't make it work.

Not sure about the others, but Det. Danny Reagan used the 5946 in the first season of Blue Bloods, not the 5906. That would be consistent with the location, as he plays an NYPD detective, and NYPD authorizes, for duty use, the 5946NY, the SIG 226NY, and the Glock 19.

The FBI agent in Ransom (Delroy Lindo I think) had a 3rd gen DAO, probably a 5946. They never carried those weapons so probably a prop guy just handed the actor a gun from the gun cage. Several NYPD cops had them so he probably just had one of those.

On of my favorite films is "Street Kings"-the first one only. Keanu Reeves carries a 4566 as well as a custom 1911.

**Drift alert** That film made me appreicate him as an actor. He's matured nicely, a very private guy, does a lot of really good things for people that need help and doesn't want it publicized and is a long time motorcycle rider now involved in a high end custom production bike company. A true enthusiast.**

Hollywood homicide with Harrison Ford. I believe they used 4566 or 4506.

Gone in 60 seconds. 5906. Gary Oldman carried one in The Dark Knight movie.

Last Action Hero with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Believe they had a bunch of 3rd gens.

The X files agent Fox Mulder 5906

Southland. Officer Cooper 5906

Resident Evil had a 59XX

Terminator 3. Bad Boys, Pulp Fiction. 4506

Breaking Bad had 4506 and 4566

I read that about him. He gave $80 million of his $114 million in earnings from the Matrix series to the make up and special effects staff.

He gave up money so that Al Pocino would star in The Devils Advocate. The budget didn't allow for both men to get paid what they negotiated. He did the same with Gene Hackman.

Gave a $20k bonus to a set designer when he found out the man had family financial issues.

Quoted as saying "money is the last thing I think about. I could live on what I already made for the next few centuries"

Really? I didn't know that. I read an article about him and the release of John Wick. He said "it blows that I'm not the big money leading man anymore, but it's hard to complain when you never have to worry about your mortgage payment or next meal".

I still think Point Break was his best film. Let's be honest, Keanu is no Brando. But that was a fun movie. I must have seen it at least 100 times. Whenever it's on, I watch it and annoy my wife and kids as I recite the lines before the actors say them!

And the off duty cop used a 6906 to try to stop the bank robbery! Took out 4 guys with a 12 round magazine before Patrick Swayze dispatched him as he reloaded (damn bullet resistant vests!)

Chuck. Yvonne Strahovski's character carried a 5906.
Vick Mackey appeared to carry a 4506.

Fox Mulder carried a few pistols. First season-Taurus 92. Second season-Glock (19?). I've also seen him carry a Sig in an episode where he was in a bank that was being robbed. I think it was a Sig, anyway.
It seems like his character changed sidearms quite often, and for no apparent reason.
He had what appeared to be a 3904 in one part of one episode.

IMFDB.org is one of my favorite websites.

I was watching a show recently, where someone had what appeared to be a 5903 or 5906 on their nightstand.

Just watched tonight's episode of "True Detective" and during the big shootout, noticed the CHP cop carries a 4006 (I thought it was a 5906 but IMFDB says it's a .40).

One of the detectives on Major Crimes, Lt. Provenza, carries a 3rd gen. I thought it was a 4516 but according to the website above it's something else. I just can't remember what it is.

I remember a post about the CHP. They do indeed carry a 40 3rd gen. I thought it was DAO though. And the CHP cop not only had a safety, but there was no rail.

If you recall a few months back, the CHP had some under cover officers in a "F the Po-lice" protest. Some photographer snapped a pic of an undercover pointing his 3rd gen at the protesters after he was discovered and attacked. They wisely backed off.

My mistake. It was detective Flynn and he is using a 6906 according to the web.

Double-bonus points for citing "The Good Guys" !!! While admitedly cheesy at times, it was largely a very funny and highly under-rated show, that was canceled very prematurely,IMO.

I mean this more as an observation and hypothesis than any sort of criticism or accusation, but something just occured to me: Given the almost overwhelming proliferation of S&W semi-autos in TV and movies during this period, what do you think the chances are that S&W "greased the wheels'',so to speak? It's not at all far-fetched.....or unprecedented.
We know the cigarette companies were actively pushing their products in the movies of the mid 20th century, and later, it became an open buisness to have products and their logos prominently featured in movies and TV.
Producers could have easily used any number of pistol facsimiles in their productions, yet the 39/59 designs have been more than proportionately cast. The odds of this being mere coincidence would be very slim, IMO.

There are genuine, known examples of this. Harry Sanford, the man behind the ATM guns and earlier, the original Automag pistols contacted Clint Eastwood and finagled the .44 Automag in to the role of "best supporting actor" in the movie Sudden Impact.

Glock HAD to have done that in U.S. Marshals. The whole movie was an advertisement for Glock. That's where Tommy Lee Jones told Robert Downey to "get rid of that sissy Nickle pistol and get yourself a Glock". Then later when Downey got one he says "these things are so cool. You can shoot them underwater"

I don't think S&W paid for movies to use them. They were just so common in the 90's. they were the S&W revolver in the 50's. Everybody had them.

It's like the Beretta 92. It was THE 9MM of the 80's and 90's. Hardly a movie got made without one in it.

At the risk of a thread drift... funny you say that about the Beretta 92.

A story was relayed by some Hollywood prop man that the famous 92 used by John McClane in the Die Hard series wasn't just the same model that was used in the Lethal Weapon series... but rather, it was actually the SAME pistol!

That one has a high round count!

Product placement is as big a part of a film as the actors. Many times scripts are written with a specific firearm in mind, other times it's "what would a cop in "x" city use" or "what would this type of bad guy use" and still other times it's a matter of what's available from the prop house.

It is. You can see the gun on the IMFDB. It looks really beat up. It's in some display. It was definitely used in more than 1 movie.

That .45 CQB/4563 PC gets my vote for best looking .45 ever.
