559 Terrible trigger
Just picked up a Model 559. The trigger is horrendously hard to pull, full of creep and so on. I'm new to 2nd generation pistols. What can be done to lessen the trigger pull and the creep in these guns?

Not sure what you are expecting in regards to the DA creep?
Completely take it apart, clean it, smooth out the drawbar paying attention to the sides and bottom, smooth out all parts that you have taken out, but don't change the geometries. Lube everything when putting it back together, except for firing pin & spring.
Wolf sells springs that can lessen the SA with reduced drawbar plunger springs, and extra power firing pin springs for positive ignition.
Some of the best triggers I have are on 2nd Gen pistols. All have been totally taken apart and cleaned up, not all have had Wolf springs installed.

If it is a used pistol, and likely is, it might be full of old, gummy oil and dirt. That will certainly make for a horrendous trigger pull. I'd recommend a good cleaning and light lubrication. If you do strip the pistol, inspect for damage and gently smooth any roughly machined spots or burs. It would also be a good idea to install new springs. These are service weapons, not target pistols, so I would recommend using factory springs or aftermarket springs that duplicate factory specs.
How heavy should the pull be? In general, double action pull of about 12 pounds and a single action pull around 6 pounds seems to be normal. My 439 does have a slight amount of rougness in the double action pull and the pull gets progressively heavier as the hammer draws towards its full cocked position, this is normal to the design. The single action pull is longer than that of a 1911 and has just a hint of roughness in it.

Thanks stansdds,
What springs are available? And, what exact springs should I replace?

If you are going to detail strip the receiver, replace all of them. Numrich Gun Parts bought a lot of parts for the old S&W's after S&W dropped the line.

I had a 669 for a while. It took two men, a boy, and a government mule to pull the DA

S&W 3RD GENERATION DISASSEMBLY/TEARDOWN (FRAME) VIDEO #1 OF 4 - YouTube
The above link will carry the "clicker" to the first in a series of four Bluebelly videos posted on YouTube.com.
They are of a third-generation disassembly and reassembly (videos 1 and 4) with two videos (two and three) devoted to fine-tuning internals. Please note these aren't your everyday slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am instructional videos.
Yes, in myself possessing three Model 559s, I full well know the differences between so-called "second" and "third"-generation S&W semi-autos. Why, this idiot collector even is aware of a first-generation's internals.
However, whosoever watches these videos throughout with full interest and curiosity - as well as heed its warnings - will learn much and will improve the performance of their Alpha-3 and earlier pistols because insofar as Generations 1-through-3 are concerned, one is an "improvement" upon the other.
No really big and radical changes occur between numbers 1 and 3 until encountered is the installation of a gear-driven, grip-hovering and frame-mounted lever safety that has no doubt driven crazy a boatload of wannabe gunsmiths - said safety having devolved its former self into what the parts list thus calls a "firing-pin retainer."
Retainer!?
Oh, woe is me!
But such is another matter.
Later.
