Design Similarities - M&P vs. Sigma

I'm relatively new to S&W semi-auto pistols.

I have an M&P 9L and am familiar with the mechanisms in the M&P. I'm also an armorer for another brand of semi-auto pistol.

I've never seen a Sigma even field stripped.

So for those with familiarity with both designs, what are your observations about the design similarities between the Sigma and the M&P.

Not much similarity other than both are combat tupperware; they don't even use the same mags.
I have both, and the M&P design is more refined and substantially different, as reflected in the price.
But make no mistake, both go bang when the trigger is pulled: The Sigma just takes more pulling.
M&P has superior sights, reinforced frame, more sophisticated trigger design, more finished look, and lots of aftermarket goodies. If spite of repeated attempts to turn the Sigma into a racegun (by owners), it is best used as a basic defense gun at a value price.

Gotta agree with Chuck....

The new S&W "SD" line seems to be a re-worked Sigma. No details here - I don't want one anyway - but I hope they fixed the more serious issues. I have shot 'em. Yech....

Supposedly the Sigmas were a sufficiently accurate clone of the Glock design as to cause S&W to get sued. The result seems to not have helped us at all....

Other than roll pins (the punches are cheap enough and you only need a couple), I find the S&W's very easy to work on, although you do tend to lose your mind trying to put 'em back together. Rather like putting the slide back on a Walther P22. You have to have done it three or four times before you can do it ....

(OK, it's not quite that bad, but a buddy brought one to the range one night many years ago, and, naturally, had to take it apart. About four of us "old timers" couldn't get it back together until it dawned on us what that little piece of plastic was really for....)

Is the M&P a reworked sigma? Why not they are both striker fired share similarities. The SD9 and 40 share the same similarities with the M&P and the sigma. The similarities are more toward the M&P. I own all 3, well 4 but that isn't the point. The Sd9 is a fine pistol in it's own right. M&P sights, extractor, a new more simple trigger design and for me a better size. Best "Bang" for the buck I've seen.
