Got me a 629-2 Mountain Revolver (EDIT: Range report on my most recent post)

I watched that one too Smashemflat. Very neat revolver. I'm guessing the price must be a record for a Mountain Revolver. In the original article by Ross Seyfried he modified the Patchmayor grips to better fit his hand. The auction site showed unaltered grips, so they must have been replaced at some point.

Tac diamonds on a full house load should be decent. If too aggressive you can always smooth them out a Little with 600grit. Ive had to do that on carry grips that would sandpaper my backside.

I've shot a few 240gr "regular" .44 Magnums with the Ahrends boot grips on, not at all comfortable. With those on it's a .44 Special. The Pachs are much better though still quite firm compared to a set of rubber Hogues.

Range report!

Had a great day outdoors today. In Central Ohio it was as nice as can be outside for a shooting day.

Look at these BEAUTIFUL, FILTHY girls! Had a riot w/ a 66-3, 686-5, 625-3 (CRAZY fun), and of course the 629 (among many other guns we brought)

The 629 Mountain Revolver was awesome. It left some sore wrists, probably a few future blisters, and a LOT of smiles. It was absolutely a crowd pleaser. Recoil with those grips and full house .44s was about what I expected: harsh. But we were laughing the whole time. I had to put gloves on after a while… oh well we had fun.

Long story short: I love it and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Love it. These are so great because you have a highly desirable, uncommon gun that will increase in value, but also can be shot and enjoyed without impacting that value.

Yes! Between 3 people it got MAYBE 60 rounds through it. If someone could possibly shoot the barrel life outta a 4” .44mag w/ hard grips and heavy rounds… I’d love to meet them and shake their hand. Not saying it’s never happened, but my gawd that thing was punishing. In the best way, of course!

The Rubber hits the Road

Thank you for the Range report. When I read
your first post and how you switched grips
I had to chuckle.

My 45Colt Mountain Gun came with wood
S&W Combats grips. When I picked it up I
was so excited to shoot it, I went right to the
Range.

Loaded six rounds, aimed and squeezed the
trigger. Wow! what surprise and it definitely
was not comfortable to shoot. Never experienced
that before because all my S&Ws have rubber
grips on them.

Needless to say I replaced the Combats with good
old rubber grips. I was also lucky to find the S&W
rubber grips with the Silver Medallions. Now the 45
Colt M.G. is enjoyable to shoot like my other Smiths.

Anyways, congratulations on a nice Revolver
to be proud to own and the Best to you
and your Endeavors.

P.S. I also have a 44Rem Mag Mountain Gun.
45Colt below.
