Yep. Early yesterday morning at 12:17, my oldest grandson and his sweet wife welcomed a seven-pound one-ounce baby boy into this world. Never thought I'd be around when the great-grandchildren started arriving. I feel very lucky. Bottom line...it's looks like I'll need to start thinking about pony shopping in the near future. :)

Congrats!!!
I wish my case was so simple.
My son married a woman that already had a son.
She is now my daughter in-law, but what about her son? Is he now my grandson in-law or step grandson?
To complicate matters further, he has married and has a new born son.
Am I now a Great-great grandfather in-law or step gg father??

Congratulations.

As a GGfather I will tell you that you are in for one of the greatest treats of all time.
That will occur when the Grandkids decide to let you take care of him - be it an hour, a day or a week, it will be joyous. It gets better and better as they get older.

Plus, when your fun meter is pegged at max, you can give him back while you rest up for the next adventure.

First of all, thank you for your service to our country.

For what it's worth, there are times you have to be exact as to the nature of a familial relationship. When I was working, the question of who was related to who and how was important for determining questions of title to real property by inheritance. Short of any legal adoption by your son, you will be in a step relationship with all of your daughter-in-law's descendants.

But "family" isn't always defined by blood. I have what I consider an adoptive family that I have known for 50 years over 3 generations. I am called "Uncle" by the son of my old classmate, and his wife. I have always believed that I was considered as another son in the family.
