Model 29 modified barrel

I bought this model 29-2 at a gun show two years ago, and I am looking for expertise on what exactly has been done to it. I believe it is a competition barrel. It has a B square base for the scope, but no other markings on the barrel. Is it possible to change out to an original barrel? I don't shoot competitively, but is it worthwhile to keep it as is, or restore?

It has had a custom target barrel and underlug installed for competition like you said. You will have to take much more detailed pictures for anyone to be able to tell more about what has been done or who did it. The barrel can be removed and replaced with an original barrel. The barrel is going to cost about $150 with probably about the same amount for a gunsmith to swap it out.
