I recently picked up a minty model 43 from the early 1960's. The good news was shells didn't stick in the chambers the bad was it would misfire about once every cylinder full of Winchester & CCI rimfire rounds when firing double-action. A god cleaning and making sure the rounds were fully seated did nothing to help the situation. Put in a new factory replacement mainspring from Numrich Gun Parts and problem is solved. The spring was noticeably more stiff, both when installing and shooting. Don't know if the new spring is the same as the original was or if it is stronger to begin with. Either way the problem is solved. I had a hard time finding a factory spring, as opposed to a reduced power one.

I'd wager that a previous owner wanted a lighter double action pull and installed an aftermarket, reduced power main spring. These lighter weight springs do reduce the trigger pull, but they often do not impart enough energy into the hammer to reliably ignite rounds in double action.
