Only one Randall 19 so far, not exactly a collection............yet.
rburg - to refer to your Randall as "mild steel" is probably fightin words to a hardcore knife guy, carbon steel (vs stainless) is better, high carbon better yet, tool steel best.
Randall movie trivia: In the Dirty Harry flick The Enforcer, the coroner in the autopsy scene describes the murder weapon as " a Marine Corps Bowie or one of those Special Forces Randalls"
Here are the pics of the two I got this weekend.
Randall Model one with a black spacer/washer.
What I thought was a number 8 is actually a model 26.
I like the 26 the best.
Dave,
Based upon the 4 "S features" (sheath, spacers, stone & separate S) I believe that your Model 2 was made in the mid 60s to early 70s. I have several knives from that same period with the same four features as yours.
Had it bad at one time until the prices went completely nuts. Still have a few--4 I think--1-7 is still my favorite--but when I saw this one done in '95 I had to have it. 2-7 with an embellishment by the afore mentioned RBscrim.

When you're posting pictures of the knife, include the back side of the sheath. Smooth or rough side. On the knife itself, the thing most of us look for is the coloring and sequence of the spacers.

Dick,
Here is a picture with the smooth back side of the sheath. So Randle would use the same colors and sequence for a particular year? Is there a legend online for this? Thanks.
I've had the addiction bad. I pared the collection down to five because I couldn't decide which one was my favorite. You'll have to pardon the picture quality as my camera skills are somewhat lacking.

Ok - well I am far from an expert, but my understanding is that what you posted above is not factual. The spacers have changed over the years and that is one indication of an approximate age, but there is no "code" based on spacer color or arrangement - they didn't change annually.
Also similar to S&W there appears to be no steadfast rules in dating Randall Made Knives, just approximation based on a variety of factors.
Maybe someone with more expertise can chip in on this topic.
