Had a great day right here in town today. Started out with a casual stroll out to the Paw Paw High School for the Memorial Day Car Show then back home to grab our sling chairs, an Arturo Fuente Cubanito cigarillo for me and my tripod for my camera and we set up on the parade route, enjoyed the parade and a coupla free hot dogs.
After that we dropped our stuff off at the house and casually strolled to the other end of town to check out the vendors set up near the Post Office.
Beautiful weather and I got it all on video.
I'm gonna upload it all to my YouTube Channel and post some links. May take a few days, the internet's kinda slow out here.
Tomorrow, we're planning on a nice hike on local mountain trails then back home for a cold beer, a cigar and bison burgers on the grill. I might get it on video.

Glad you had a good day. I was in WV a few years ago driving down to Beckley for a white water rafting trip on the Gauley River. I have no idea if we were in Paw Paw but ended up in the middle of a classic car parade in our nondescript rental car. I did enjoy all the spectators waving at us though. This was in the fall though as we were going for the reservoir release into the Beast of the East.

That's one of the things I like about living in a rural area. There's lotsa festivals to enjoy. Lisa and I went to the Apple Blossom Festival earlier this month and enjoyed some old fashioned carnival rides. In June we're planning on going to the Old Town fair.

My wife and I have driven thru PawPaw on a couple of occasions while returning from DC to our home in the Pittsburgh area.

We remember singing "pickin up pawpaws puttin em our pocket, way down yonder in the pawpaw patch."

That's a pretty decent sized parade for a town the size of Paw Paw!

The Ohio Paw Paw festival is in Albany, Ohio which is in Athens County. That's in South Eastern, Ohio. New Albany is just north of Columbus in Franklin County. That would be about a 90 mile miscalculation.

Sucking on green Paw Paws (Persimmons) are so sour they'll turn your face inside out!

Paw Paws

I shared my dad’s love for paw paws. He was ¼ Native American. Our ancestors were well learned in the use of natures produce. Many times, my dad returned from an excursion in the fields/woods, and would pull a paw paw, from his pocket, and share it with me.

What isn’t thoroughly discussed; the early green paw paw fruit has an entirely different color, texture and taste, than completely ripened paw paw fruit. When fully ripened, their skin is a dark chocolate brown color, and their interior is a light pinkish color, and creamy like warm butter, their seeds are black, flat, and slick and about the size of a 25cent piece. And taste like an extremely sweet ripe banana. Like bananas, paw paws shouldn't be stored in a refrigerator.

Pa Paws don’t appeal to everyone. My mom, of Swiss descent, refused to eat ‘em, but to those of us that they do appeal, they are just delicious.
