Need advice for a bipod. On July 4th I won a raffle for a Savage 110 Bolt Action Hunter XP in 6.5 Creedmoor. I want to get a bipod for attaching to the swivel stud for bench shooting. I bought a cheaper "clone" bipod for my S&W 15-22 but have never bought a bipod for a high powered rifle.

Checking on line resources I like the looks and reviews of a basic Harris Bipod. Would like to spend $100 or less.

Thanks.

My "oldest" Harris bipod is +40 years old. My "newest" is about 10 years old. The oldest has been helping steady my Ruger M-77 in 30-06 for the duration and the newest is on a heavy barreled Remington 700 in .308. There's also one on my 788 in .223 Rem.
I've had good luck with them as you can tell.

I don't know the current prices on Harris bipods, but I have several and they work fine. Get one that the swiveling has a thumb lock. for bench and table shooting the short 6-12" would be best, a little longer for prone. and I have one that extends to 24" for varmint hunting. You try to keep it as short as possible to keep it stiff and increase accuracy.

As to leg adjusters I prefer the preset notches, but for uneven surfaces the locking screws are better.

I recommend some sort of rear bag. I use a bag under the pistol grip area or the back end of the butt, and squeeze it until you bring the cross hairs down on target. The USMC used to use a sock full of sand for this. I like a little bigger bag than that.

I made the mistake of buying one of Midway's house brand bipods, looks just like a Harris, and that is all it is any good for!
