Bob Newhart passed.

I used to tend bar at a place that opened at 10am. We had a regular crew who would line up and start boozing in time to be well and truly drunk when the Andy Griffith Show came on. If it was a “Barney” all was good. If it was one of the later post-Fife episodes they would turn surly until Bob Newhart came on, then it was a lively game of “Hi Bob”, which is of course slamming your drink whenever someone says HI BOB - a frequent occurence.

Bob Newhart was a class act, and he lived a long life.

Age 94. Always enjoyed his deadpan style.
I just read the bad news :( His monologues were hysterical. One that comes to mind now is about Sir Walter Raleigh introducing tobacco. "You bought 80 tons of... leaves?" "You take a pinch of tobacco and you stuff it up your nose...?"

From the obit I just read:

"I've always likened what I do to the man who is convinced that he is the last sane man on Earth ... the Paul Revere of psychotics running through the town and yelling 'This is crazy.' But no one pays attention to him."

Had a great marriage, too: "Newhart married Virginia Quinn, known to friends as Ginny, in 1964, and remained with her until her death in 2023"
