Which anti virus software do you use if you use WIN10 on a PC

I recently ran across a problem with my PC that runs WIN10 and I've been using Windows Defender as my virus protection for years. I believe I've tracked the problem to the Defender program itself. MAYBE a recent Windows security update is my problem. If you use one of the many virus protection programs available could you share that information with me?

Have an Asus laptop. It came with Windows 11 & McAfee. I didn't purchase McAfee after 30 days and I have just been using Windows Defender. It updates every few days. I haven't had any problems or issues using just Windows Defender. Don't know if Windows 11 made any difference.

I've read Windows 10 expires in 2025

Question - if you believe this is a problem with the Defender program itself or a Windows update, can you be certain that another anti-virus program will fix it?

If you load a 3rd-party antivirus program it essentially shuts off Windows Defender - which you can do yourself to see if the problem goes away. If it's an issue with a Windows update, there aren't any anti-virus programs that will change that, but you certainly can "roll back" your computer to an earlier version of Windows before the suspected update to see if that clears up the issue.

There's an exe file called Msmpeng that is part of Defender and when my computer has a problem antimalware service (msmpeng) is tying up the processor and the disk is running at %100 until I turn the pc off and on. The problem is very intermittent and I shut off defender but I DON'T want to leave it off too long. If I get another virus program and my problem goes away I'll quit using Defender

I have been using Biddefender on my parent's and my computers without too much drama. I had Norton but found it very annoying with constant pushes towards upgrades and other issues that I can't recall right now. We had McAfee and it was OK but that was sometimes annoying also. Bitdefender appears to use AVG's old interface.
 
I use Avast One free version. It offers good protection at an unbeatable price (free). Some features require a subscription, but the basic antivirus is free. It's effective and easy on system resources. Scans are VERY fast when I remember to do them.
 
Malwarebytes. They don't drive you crazy with ads and upgrade solicitations like Norton and McAfee and is not Russian like Avast. It is rated very highly in independent testing.

Back in July, I got an all new Dell desktop unit, and while having it installed, I had the tech " upgrade " { I use the term very lightly !} to Windows 11.
A royal pain in the a** would be an understatement !!!!!!!!!
