"Just a bit outside!" Will miss his humor.

Some more great great Uecker quotes:

"How do you catch a knuckleball? You wait until it stops rolling, then go pick it up."

"I had a great shoe contract and glove contract with a company who paid me a lot of money never to be seen using their stuff."

"When I came up to bat with three men on and two outs in the ninth, I looked in the other team's dugout and they were already in street clothes."

"The biggest thrill a ballplayer can have is when your son takes after you. That happened when my Bobby was in his championship Little League game. He really showed me something. Struck out three times. Made an error that lost the game. Parents were throwing things at our car and swearing at us as we drove off. Gosh, I was proud."

He was great. " I must be in the front row." I say that every time I get a good parking space. One of a kind guy.

Over 100 appearances.

I'm pretty sure Carson used him the same way Conan used Norm MacDonald. Guest can't make it last minute? "Hey, Buddy. Can you come on tonight?" With Bob or Norm, whatever they came up with was going to be funny. Bob had a million stories and all of them were hilariously self deprecating. Johnny loved that kind of humor, it's why he loved Rodney Dangerfield so much.

Thanks to all commenters above. I listened to mlb radio religously for two teams depending on my local market : Bob when I was in WI and later Bill King for the voice of the A’s in Oakland. Number 1 and 2 respectively and both in the HOF.. Dodgers fans may disagree about Vince…. But Bob is on top because of both his insight and his humor.
Read Catcher in the Wry if you havent listened to Bob on a broadcast.
RIP
