These were on eBay yesterday at a reasonable price. They’ll look good on a 4” nickel 29 I have.
I’m not sure if this is the correct forum for this post.
What wood is this? They like Mahogany to me, but I hear they only made them in Rosewood, Walnut and Goncalo Alves.
Would this be a lot rosewood or did one of the guys at the factory? Try something different?
Maybe special order?

Thanks

Post a pic of the backsides, usually blonde ones like that are walnut but they have more yellow than usual but that is probably what they are. Age and UV darkens all of them so can make it difficult to rely on color. Goncalo is what is found mostly in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Walnut is second and Rosewood is much more uncommon. Rosewood is more complicated because S&W used Brazilian and later Honduran Rosewood.

A few examples below but they vary by wide margins.

Brazilian Rosewood (lighter color than many)

Thanks.
I’ll make sure they get oiled and waxed
I’ve actually been mixing Danish oil with a little varnish I’m getting what I consider to be pretty nice results.
I’m sure that’s not the correct traditional way of doing it though.
