I would be remiss if I failed to note that yesterday, April 1, the U.S. Navy celebrated the birthday of the Chief Petty Officer (CPO) rank. The rank/rate was officially established in 1893.

My best friend's sister has 3 sons in the Navy. One is a CPO, one is a Senior CPO, and the oldest is a Mustang that's up for Lt. Commander.

I was at a family function a few weeks ago. The Lt Commander seldom wears his uniform around family, so his brothers don't have to salute him.

One uncle was an Army NCO, the other was Navy but didn't stay long enough to make Chief, The Granddad was a PO 2nd in WWII, Then a WO 1 in Korea. A family that takes SERVICE seriously!
