Shoulder to Shoulder

Today, the Obama administration will put on a spectacle for the American media to further a political agenda. They will use emotion and other tried and true formulas to garner support for that agenda. They will attempt to make gun owners, freedom lovers and the NRA to be the main reason why our children are no longer safe in their schools. It's going to be bad.

In my many years of studying history I've always been in awe by the sheer courage that Americans have exhibited in their endeavors to remain free men and women. One particular exhibition of that courage that has always struck me was during the War between the States. Young men along with members of their families and neighbors would be put up on the front line to face the fire of the opposing side. They would stand there shoulder to shoulder while the other side shot their Springfield's or Enfields at each other. Men would crumple to the ground,bones would be shattered the screams of pain and the gore would be atrocious.

When it was their turn to return fire the ones left standing would return that fire to men who were standing shoulder to shoulder. Sometimes they would break ranks and run because their courage had failed them and in many cases brave leaders would turn those men and have them hold their ground to again return fire. This was the way battles were won or lost.

Today, when that withering fire of media generated passion and cynicism is turned on us we must stand tall, shoulder to shoulder and not lose our courage. Wait until it is our turn to return the fire with our well chosen words, our ultimate resolve of our demand to remain free for us, our children and our country.

Hold your tongues, wait until they are done. Carefully examine what they have said and done and respond to their unreasoned and emotional presentation with reasoned, well thought out and firm responses. The media will be watching and waiting for irrationality and breaking of ranks in the responses from our side in every venue. Make no mistake it's going to be bad.

I think he faltered a bit today, deciding he had a tiger by the tail. That tiger is the growth seen in the NRA since the tragedy, and the huge volumes of recent sales.

The fight is NOT over, and is far from won.

I'm reminded of the US airborne forces on June 6, 44. Many were not sure where they were. They were not sure where the enemy was. They were not sure what their enemy would throw at them, or when.
They WERE sure of one thing- the conglomeration of small groups and individuals into a larger force could only aid in their survival and the accomplishment of their mission.
THAT is what we have to do. We have to stand together. If you're a bird hunter and think doubles will meet all your needs for life, you still must stand with us all. If you only shoot 22 revolvers, you must still stand with us. I promise you, if they get ALL the black rifles and 30 rd mags, they will one day come for you.

Someone suggested to me this morning that this gun thing is just smoke screen for something bigger. We know there are a number of issues that effect our national security more than law abiding citizens possessing semi automatic rifles with pistol grips and 30-round magazines. Egypt's due to receive a number of F16s and 200 M1A1 tanks from us very soon. The original government agreement was made before the Arab Spring and a radical thug government took power. For some reason or another, 200 Abrams tanks facing Israel concerns me and my little corner of national security more than a sane man owning a rifle.

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. To that I would add, freedom is a full time occupation, there will always be those that will try to sieze our freedoms to make us the ruled.

Well said Jennifer. I too believe that POTUS has maybe just
realized he has awakened a sleeping Giant.
We are still in for a long fight and we must keep an unwavering
eye on those who try to disarm us under the pretense of "safety".
Like Lee stated also, just because the current crop of new laws
will not affect your ability to enjoy the firearm of your choice we
must "ALL" stand together and give this bunch a big resounding
"NO" to any and all proposals they put forward with regards to
gun restrictions.
