New Jersey Bans Safe, Effective Ammunition
Edit: Apologies, this is old news, I guess I've been living under a rock in NH, lucky me, just saw it posted at a news site. Apologies for old news
New Jersey’s draconian laws prohibit the possession of commonly used hollow-point ammunition outside the home, leaving residents to carry substandard full metal jacket ammunition instead,” GOA said in a press release announcing the action.

I thought that had been the case for quite some time in new Jersey. Cops can carry hollow points but private citizens can not. I thought I remembered that back from a vacation I took ten years ago.

Yes, this has been the case for quite some time.
IIRC, if caught, every single hollow point in your possession is a felony.
I've avoided traveling through NJ for years...

Opinions differ, but some have stated Hornady Critical Defense and Duty, and the discontinued Federal Guard Dog, are expanding "non hollow points" that are NJ legal. But do your own due diligence out there, you do not want to be the subject of a legal test case.

But check this out re: polymer filled tips
Quote:
I’m not a police officer, are hollow points legal for me to possess?
Yes. They are legal for purchase and possess in your home or on land owned by you. They are legal to possess and use at a gun range. They are also legal to possess while traveling to and from such places. Ammunition lacking a hollow cavity at the tip, such as those with a polymer filling, are not considered to be hollow point ammunition. An example of this can be seen with the Hornady Critical Defense / Critical Duty, Cor-Bon PowRball / Glaser Safety Slug and Nosler Inc. Defense ammunition.

This is a fairly extensive discussion of the New Jersey hollow point prohibition law. https://scholarship.shu.edu/cgi/view...3&context=shlj

I carry FMJ FP routinely in 40+ caliber sidearms and both 5.56 and 7.62×39 rifles. Have done so in sidearms since 2011 and rifles since 1992.
And I can't afford NJ - the property taxes there are astoundingly high.

Yes, I know that I quoted and "Liked" this. Yes, I am aware of my location. Yes, I am aware that people who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones.
I still like it.
