Miltary 22 Hornet

I have the opportunity to snag some 22 Hornet that was loaded for the military in the late 60's early 70's.

What would it have been used for? About the only thing I can think of is some special purpose in VN. Is this amo worth anything on the collector market?

I don't have a picture but I believe there was a BATF restricted Airforce Survival weapon with that caliber

This is the M4 from WW2 time, they were surplused out after the Army Air Corps became the Air Force. That was quickly squashed when someone realized the barrels were under 16", making them an NFA weapon.

The M4 was replaced by the more familiar M6.

I guess I could buy the ammo and start hunting for an M6 chambered in 22 Hornet.

White boxes with black printing, correct?
These were for the pilot/military survival rifles of the time. I had a bunch of these, they were quite accurate in my Savage 219 single shot.

I am debating whether or not to buy it. I was wondering if it might be collectable to someone. Not a lot of info on the boxes.

The ammo shown was designated M65. It's a 35 Gr. bullet at around 2850fps from a Kimber 22" bbl.

The first issue ammo was commercial SP, then came the 45 Gr. FMJ, finally the 35 as shown. Accuracy was excellent from a good gun.

The M4 was a post-WWII development.

Pricewise, any Hornet ammo is expensive today. Check the auctions for current values.
