For Christmas my older brother got me a Winchester model 77 in 22LR ,I have researched them and found were many people say that they can be ammo sensitive, anyone here have experience with one of these? If so what is the best ammo that you have found for this gun?

thanks...Jay

All semi-automatic .22 firearms can be ammunition sensitive, Ammunition sensitivity of any type is very specific to an individual gun. Just buy one box at a time and see how that works, if not buy a different brand. Someone could recommend twenty different makes and loads and all might work well, or all might exhibit failures.

Start with Standard Velocity CCI and go from there.

Since every gun is different, best is to get a variety of different 22 LR ammo and spend time at the range so the gun can show what anno it prefers.

I always start down this rabbit hole with CCI mini mags, if they don't work I know I am going to be digging very deep down that black dark hole.

Part of the fun. THE HUNT for the most reliable and accurate ammo for our weapons.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!! Hoping the NEW YEAR is the best ever for all of us.

Yes....to starting with CCI Mini Mags particularly for a semi auto.

As others have stated buy a box or two of different brands of ammo and try them out . You will soon find out what will work best in your firearm.

But as stated above I would start with the Mini Mags and go from there.

What ammo works best in a 22 really is unique for every gun.

That being said, if a 22 is not reliable with CCI MiniMags the odds of finding something that works better is pretty low.

With a rifle its not just about reliability, accuracy matters a lot too. And while MiniMags may be the most reliable I can often find other ammo that is also reliable and more accurate. CCI standard velocity and Federal Automatch would are the first types I would try but there are lots of other choices. My CZ 452 shoots CCI standard velocity so well I don't see the need to use expensive match ammo in it.

The swamp people of Louiiana say ...

Gathrr up a nuce assortment of 22 LR ammo and ...

Choot 'Em... Liz-Beth ... Choot 'Em !!!

That can vary between examples of the same model so the trick is to try various loadings before buying a large number of rounds.

CCI mini mags and Aguila copper plated super extra high velocity are good starting points IMO.

Some references say 77 was intended for hi velocity ammo, so this may be bad advice.

Though might be good advice. Recoil spring may have weakened over time. Some above recommend Mini Mags. I suggest OP try some of both.

I'd cycle the bolt by hand a few times to see what the spring feels like, and pick starting ammo based on that. Weak spring, std V. Strong spring, MMag.

Thank you all for the input , I have about 15k rounds of ammo on hand mostly CCI SV but also WIN/REM/FED auto match , sadly no min mags but that can be fixed easy enough. One thing I did not say or better put was my research found that the guns fowl up easy???? So the cleaner the ammo the better but we will see what she likes?

All .22 ammo is dirty. The degree of filth doesn't matter as it takes the same amount of time and effort to clean. Go with what's most accurate.
