I’ve seen many people say the Remington bucket ammo is no good. Has anyone had any experience with Federal BYOB Ammo in their M&P 15-22?

Buy BYOB, 22 LR, 36 Grain, Copper Plated Hollow Point, 1260 fps Ammo | Federal

Are there any other brands with decent quality ammo buckets? Just looking for something cheap that won’t jam or misfire.

Edit: Sorry I think I put this in the wrong forum. My bad.

In my experience 22s are really fussy about ammo and two theoretically identical guns may like different brands better. I actually made up 4X6 cards on each of mine rating I think seven types of ammo for function and accuracy. My favorite cheap ammo is Blazer.
i was already going to like your post for the example of documenting results. Now it turns out that we both have had good results with the same ammo - Blazer. For me, other CCI ammo, as well.

I have used the Federal stuff and love it. But it recently went up in price, so I ended up switching to Winchester 22LR for 6 cents a round.

IMHO Remington bucket is ****.

After the first .22 crisis I stocked up on Federal 550 Value Packs from Wally. Never had a problem. Winchesters of the same time period were often an issue. CCI was too expensive.

After the last crisis Wally had 325 Federal packs, but they were a slightly reduced velocity. I bought only 1 brick and tested it thru ALL of my semis with good results. Since the velocity met the requirements of my club's indoor range (no HV), I put in a near lifetime supply.

Recently I had a bunch of FTFs on an old High Standard. All required a second shot. The primer strikes did not look too light, but nevertheless I experimented further.

Same problem with 3 other semis and revolvers. Seems like it was limited to one brick.

I guess you can have problems with everything today.....

They're a couple cents more per round, but I like the 300 round mini mag bulk packs.

Wow. I didn't know they even existed. I would have bought several cases had I known.

Nevertheless, not available in stores in my area and I can't mailorder.

My experience with bulk packs has not been great, much better reliability with 50 round boxes. The boxes protect the rounds better.
Also, some 15-22’s don’t like hollow point ammo.

My K22 Target and my 617 shoot nearly everything to the same POA. 72 years between them, and neither liked Remington Goldens, and Bucket of Bullets was even worse.

Bulk pack Aguila, Federal HV, and now 525's, even the Winchester 555 White Box work ok. Haven't tried the Federal BYOB yet. I save the Fed HV and my CCI for my 10-22's. My Ruger SA's shoot anything.

My 15-22 loves the 36 gr copper plated Federal stuff, its my standard plinking ammo. Can't say it is the same exact ammo as the BYOB as this was purchased in the past in some of the bulk packs but appears to be the same style bullet at least. My 15-22 is not particularly ammo sensitive. I was shooting CCI Quiet-22 40 gr segmented hollow points yesterday and they are around 750fps and for the most part it cycled OK.

When I first got it 5 or 6 years ago, my 15-22 wasn't picky except for Remington bucket o bullets. It hated those. Turned out it wasn't just my 15-22 hated them, all my 22s had issues running those, they were just garbage. I run my 15-22 suppressed but still use plenty of cheap ammo and Fed BYOB has no issues at all in mine. Aquila makes quality ammo you can get cheap in bulk too and all my 22s run the 40g super extra without issue, even my Walther P22Q which can be quite picky.

Have shot a fair amount of the Fed BYOB in several guns.
No problems!
Good value for the money,
