K38 Combat Masterpiece Ammo
I have the 1951 K38 Combat Masterpiece and looking to purchase bulk target ammo. What vendor and type should I be looking at?
Thanks

130 gr FMJ from various makers (Federal, Winchester) or any standard pressure 158 gr lead, either round nose or SWC. The 148 gr full wadcutter has been the traditional target load but I haven't seen any inexpensive quantities of this for a while. Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies!
I was reading some other posts on the proper ammo type and saw some conflicting information on the difference between .38 S&W Special ammo and .38 special ammo. Is there a difference and should I only use one of the two?

S & W developed the .38 Special round so they are one and the same. They also made the .38 S & W round, with a shorter and wider case, but you would have to look hard to find any of this...99.9999% of the time if you ask for "a box of .38s" you would get .38 Special.

There is a 38 S&W which is shorter than the 38spl. Both were designed by S&W.
The 38 S&W looks like a 9mm. In fact it is 9x20 while the 9mm is 9x19. So the 38spl would be bigger (brass) 9x29

Any .38 "Special" ammo will work in your weapon.
As mentioned, the low pressure 148gr target loads are very accurate in the 38 special but they have a higher price tag on them, which is too bad.
Most shooters have to go to the 158 gr Lead RN or SWC design for their target ammo unless they can find the 130 or other jacket or plated ammo at a good price.
All will work for killing paper and tin cans but the WC design is a little easier to see on paper targets and score if you do such things............... vs the RN designs.
You might try a box each, of 148gr, 158gr lead and a box of 130 jacket or 125gr at a good price to see how your pistol likes them................
before you buy 1,000 rounds of ammo.
Good shooting.

Just to clarify, the 38 S&W round that has a shorter case than the
38 Special round, is slightly larger than the 38 Spl that your gun takes
and will not chamber. Sgammo.com has 38 Spl at good prices. You can
order a few boxes to try or order by the case of 1,000. I would suggest
the 158 gr RN load for your vintage K38.
