Ammo for 4516
What is your favorite ammo for a 4516? Range & Carry use. Thanks!

For range use or SD?
Mine feeds anything and shoots most well. For store bought range ammo I use Winchester White Box. For more serious use I like 230 grain Speer Gold Dots. Most of my range shooting is done with reloads of a 200 grain SWC over 5.3 grains of W231 and a CCI LP primer. That load shoots well in all my 45's.

Mine likes whatever you want to shoot in it, from 185gr LSWCs to 230 FMJ. Favorite general loads are a 185gr LSWC target load or a 230 gr FMJ loaded with WSF.
Favorite SD load is nickel Starline 45 Auto+P brass, a Hornady 230 HP/XTP, max load of Power Pistol to achieve +P ballistics, and a Fed 150. (Yes, I sometimes choose to carry handloads for SD. My choice, no worries.)

If your 4516 is anything like my 4566, it will feed anything that fits into the mag, probably even rocks and BBs.
I have both 230 grn Gold Dots and Win PDX1s for my SD duty. Both feed well. I use 230 LRN reloads for range work and have never had a hint of a problem with any of them. God was smiling on S&W when they designed the 3rd Gen handguns!

I tried some of the Winchester 230 grain PDX1 ammo in my 4516-1 on Sunday and had at least one FTF (would not go into battery) in each magazine using 3 different mags. I was really looking forward to this working because it is on the shelf at the local wally world.
I am going to give the gun a good cleaning and lube and try again. Could it be that I had the rails lubed with Tetra gun grease and it was only 35 degrees out? I will try oil next time out and see what happens. I had no problems with my home brew loads.

For practice:
Wal-Mart Winchester 230 gr. FMJ by the 100 rd. Box
For work:
Issued 230 gr. Speer Gold Dot
Both work perfect. 4516s feed whatever you manage to get in the magazines.

Agrees, they will digest just about anything. I put many thousands of full house 230 grain rounds though mine with nary a glitch. Shot 200 grain semi-wadcutters just as well.
