VALUE OF VINTAGE AMMUNTION
Gentleman:
I have a VINTAGE CASE (probably early to mid 1970's) of 2000 rounds (40 boxes of 50 rounds each) of Remington 148 grain Wad Cutters (with Nickel cases in the original Factory sealed carton) that I just inherited from my Dad. Unfortunately, I really do not shoot Wad Cutters, and I was wondering of any of you Fellas might have some clue as to what it is worth. The sealed case has been stored in a cool dry place and is in like new condition, but I would like to know if it has collector value, if it is better to sell as a sealed case rather than individual boxes, or if I should just shoot it up and forget about it.
I also have some other loose boxes of the same ammo so I can tell you that the individual boxes are dark green with white and red lettering, and the name of the ammo is Remington Targetmaster.
Thank you in advance for any and all information that would be helpful.
Regards,
Chief38

Unless you can find a local buyer, shipping ammo is sooo costly for an individual that it usually kills the deal....

Since its the Target Master its aimed at the pistols that use the flush seatred wadcutter such as a model 52 S&W and perhaps the Colt target pistols that were also chambered for the flush wadcutters.
Not that you couldn't use in a revolver but the pistols were the main market.
It should be accurate, repeatable ammo and since its not run a lot these days a target shooter would be the best sale.
A price of $18-20 for a box isn't out of the question - maybe less if someone bought a good portion of it.
As noted - the shipping, depending on distance, can be a killer. Depends how badly you want to move it.

Find someone who shoots PPC or Bullseye with a revolver, they might be interested as that is the type of ammo they shoot, but most reload their own.

WOW! $34 bucks a box at Midway!! Talk about inflation.........
I think you guys might have a point about the freight, the case weighs quite a bit, so I think I will post a few adds at the local shooting ranges.
I just wish it were 158 grain RNL or SWC ammo which is what I use (mostly my own reloads). I never cared much for the 148 gr. Wad Cutters due to leading in the cylinders and forcing cone, although they sure are accurate enough. Thanks for the replies fellas.
