I picked-up a box of Corbon 110 .38 Special +P loads last winter for my Model 60-12 (last of the .38 only production). What is unique is the choice of bullet. Instead of the usual Sierra 110 gr cup & core JHP, the loads feature a 110 gr Speer Gold Dot. I guess Corbon had to substitute a higher grade bullet due to a components shortage.

How would these compare in terminal effectiveness to the normal Sierra load? Better penetration with no fragmentation?

How about compared to Speer's 135 gr Short Barrel load?

Are they worth carrying in an urban setting where over penetration is a more serious concern?

...and boy am I upset! Those Sierra bullets are dead nuts accurate. The Gold Dot will not fragment as it is a bonded bullet. As far as penetration, who knows? I haven't seen any testing of the 110gr Gold Dot bullet loaded by CorBon. It all depends on the velocity.

CorBon began making their own bonded bullets months ago. They have been introduced into the market as they have run out of their stock of Sierra. I suspect you actually have the CorBon bonded bullet and I recall seeing a fairly recent test of it where is expanded quite well and penetrated into the 12 in range. If I can remember where I found the test I will update.
