Winchester Ranger 127 gr. +P+ 9mm ammo
I'd like to get your opinion of the Winchester Ranger 127 gr. +P+ (RA9TA) as a self-defense round. I've read good things about it as far as velocity, accuracy, & expansion. I understand that it's pretty hard to find. Is it true that this is basically the same round as the Black Talon ammo from several years ago? I'd be using it in a Glock 26.
Thanks for your responses.

It's the round I use in my Beretta 92. I ordered a more powerful recoil spring from Wolfe though to reduce battering on the frame. It's pretty stout. Chronographs 1250 fps and is very accurate. This round is part of the T-series from Winchester and they are an improved Black Talon.

Yes it's a good load, but it won't do anything that the other premium self defense loads can't.

I like it a lot . . . from my guns that shoot it well. It did fine from my G26, but not from at least one other small gun (too powerful). See how it works for you: I find it accurate and powerful (does 1400 fps from my Sigma - that's what rides in that gun), and no one has a better hollowpoint on the market at the moment.

I too like this ammo! I have shot it from my Glock 26 and Glock 19. Reliable, accurate, and pretty fast round!!! Based on what I have read, this is essentially the same as the Black Talon- without the marketing hype

That's what I use in my G19. Superbly accurate and reliable. I don't get any better.

The Black Talon were 147gr and subsonic (IIRC).

The RA9SXTP +P+ was the closest bullet in construction to the original black talon which was a 147 and subsonic as stated above. It is a good round but it is not an " Improved" version for self defense. It has flat ends on the petals as opposed to the RA9SXTP which are pointed and affect more tissue destruction. The improved version may be a benefit to LE since it does have slightly better barrier penetration then the RA9SXTP. Check out CDNN they will occasionally run 15$/box on ranger and have 9.99 ship regardless of the amout. 1 box or 10 cases same ship. Be Safe,
