I have been having a few FTF's in a S&W 64-8 and 10-14 with the 158 gr. LRN Magtech. I bought a 1,000 round case and seems like I hit a bad couple of boxes. I fired most of this ammo already and had noticed very light primer dents before in various other revolvers, but no FTF's. Now, out of 2 boxes, I had about 6 FTF's in these two revolvers. Is MagTech known for having very hard primers?

I just got done shooting another box of Mag-Tech 158 gr. LRN standard pressure loads, and haven't had a misfire yet and I think that box of 50 made about 500 rounds of them through a M37 no dash. I was thinking that they seemed pretty reliable. You probably just got a bad batch, or your getting light primer strikes?
Peace,
Gordon

Haven't used any MagTech .357's, but I did buy 100 rds. of Magtech .454 Casull 260 gr SJFP. No FTF, but the cases stick in my revolver's cylinder, very HOT! WW, Hornady, hot handloads all eject easy. I won't buy MagTech any more, and am planning on pulling bullets out of the rest of my MT's, and re-load them.

In the summer of 2009 I came into 7 boxes of plain 158 gr. LRN MagTech ammunition which I happily fired in my beloved 28-2. This revolver I had owned and enjoyed since getting it in a swap with my brother. The only time that revolver ever had a FTF was with three rounds in a single cylinder full of that ammo. I had however lightened the strain screw pressure on the mainspring. When I tightened the strain screw back, there were no further problems. HTH. Sincerely. brucev.

... lightened the strain screw pressure on the mainspring. When I tightened the strain screw back, there were no further problems.

This, or installing a lighter mainspring, accounts for probably 90% of the light-strike problems in any S&W having a flat mainspring.

I've used almost 2000 rounds of magtech 9mm and 40 & I've been very pleased, no problems at all.

This, (A loose strain screw) or installing a lighter mainspring, accounts for probably 90% of the light-strike problems in any S&W having a flat mainspring.

I would go much farther and say that light strikes an misfires with revolvers are caused by loose strain screws or weak mainsprings 99.9% of the time.

Magtech may use hard primers but a any proper functioning revolver should not have misfires with any modern and properly stored ammunition.
