A friend gave me a bag of what I think is .22 caliber nail gun blank ammo. Marked Super X, and it is crimped like the birdshot Winchester makes, or made. Maybe it's .22 short birdshot. Probably a dumb question, but is it safe to shoot in revolvers of the caliber (.22 LR). They fit fine in the chambers. Obviously just making noise with them, unless they are birdshot. I've never seen .22 short birdshot.

If these are the ones with the brass end crimped and a cardboard insert to keep the powder in, then they are .22 blanks. I have a box of these myself. I bought them on a whim some years ago, but I don't know what to do with them.

They do have a crimped point and while looking for the cardboard you mentioned I realized they are painted yellow on the tip. Should be fun on the 4th of July.

We used them in the Navy to fasten steel to steel and they are not intended for units that are "NOT"made for this bullet and its pressures.
They accually have a purple tip "Magnum" load that can shot through the bulkhead of a ships wall and is no match for a 22 pistol or revolver.
Please use the "Correct ammo" in all your toys !!

While in high school (a boarding school) my roommate and I built a 4 barrel contraption that used those to propel whatever we decided to load into the homemade barrels. This device strapped onto the back of our hand, barrels about 4" long stuck out in front of fisted fingers. Obviously not smart, but kept us entertained. Doesn't really answer your question, but is a dumb idea for making use of them.

Yes. Many of these power tool cartridges will have different colored paint applied to the rose crimp tip to designate the power of the cartridge.

I could be wrong but I was thinking that the ones made for nail set guns were 27 caliber to keep them from being fired in 22 cal. firearms.

Like I said, I could be wrong. Ask my wife, I usually am............

My father sold RAMSET tools for many years in the 60's and 70's. I have a number of the cartridges with various color marked tips, indicating strength. He said that I should NEVER us them in a revolver!

There has been many different caliber tool blanks and CAD (Cartridge Acuated Device) cartridges. Many are 12GA cartridges for tractor engine starters, arial practice bombs, mortars, kiln guns, ground penetrating radar devices etc. I have one cartridge that easily fits into .38 revolvers that is actually used for aircraft ejector seats. There are other cartridges for flame throwers developed from .455 revolver cartridges, line throwing blanks in .45-70, military cable-cutting cartridges, and the list goes on.
