Local wallyworld has a 100 round value pack of WWB 125gr SJHP .357 Magnums. Price isn't bad for hollow points. This a decent round or skip it? I favor 158gr loads myself but haven't seen much if any of those lately. Especially not in quantity or a decent price.

Edit-pretty sure it's Remington.

Are you sure it is a 125 grain SJHP?

I thought the only Winchester White Box 357 Mag JHP was their 110 grain Q4204, which essentially duplicates the ballistics of the old Winchester "Treasury Load," which was a 38 Special +P+ used by certain federal agencies under the Treasury umbrella in the day when it was politically incorrect to use the .357 Magnum cartridge.

According to the Winchester web site the only USA (white box) production for JHP in the .357 mag is 110gr JHP.

They do sell the USA white box .357 Sig in 125gr JHP Product Symbol: USA357SJHP. Perhaps that is what you saw rather the .357 mag.

The only .357 magnum 125 grain SJHP I've ever seen in a WalMart was Remington UMC, not WWB.

That was some time ago, though (maybe 18 months?), since I haven't been in a WalMart that had any ammo in quite a while. I don't go out of my way to check, but when I'm near one I'll drop in. Shelves are empty save for shotgun ammo. That, they seem to have in good supply.

I agree that it sounds like you might have been looking at Remington.

The only WWB 357 magnum load I've seen at Walmart is the above-mentioned 110gr JHP, and I've only seen it in boxes of 50.

The Remington 125gr JHP comes in boxes of 100, and at least around here is(now) a little over $50/box.

Just got these at WM. $56.97

Hmmmmm...so maybe they were Remington. That box looks familiar. Doubting myself a bit.

Ok, that box is gone but if they reappear...how are the Remington's?

I cant comment much on the remmingtons. My wife doesnt like shooting 357. Would rather 38s. So i really just picked up the box for my friend. Since 357 is harder to find than 22.

The Remington 125gn SP offering seems like a pretty hot, full powered load. I shot some a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't tell it from some of the other hot 125gn loads I shot that day.

I went over to ballistics101 dot com; they list the Remington 125 grain SJHP as 583/ME and 1450/MV. Compared to some of the other 125 grain JHP or SJHP loads listed, it's fairly average. Fiocchi lists one as 755/1650, with Buffalo Bore and Double Tap higher than that.

Well, I was only comparing recoil and muzzle blast. The day I shot the Remington 125's, I was also shooting DoubleTap Bonded Defense 125s.
I was shooting them in my Ruger GP100 3". Both seemed about the same in recoil and blast, and shot to the same POA at 25yds.

Essentially NO handgun ammo in Vegas Walmarts. A few boxes of .32ACP and .25ACP ball. No larger calibers. What is 9mm? As poster above related, plenty of SG combat ammo; hunting SG ammo starting to appear.

$50 to $56 for the 100 round R-P 125gr .357 ammo? Wow. I bought numerous boxes of these before the panic at roughly half the price. Couldn't pass up at $28-ish.

I like those Remington Rose Pedal bullets because they expand reliably under a variety of conditions. For the price I think that is good ammo and I did see them at my Walmart too. The price was fair so if you need JHP .357 Magnum ammo buy them. I have 2 boxes stashed away (200 rounds) even though I load most of my ammo.

I am very fond of that bullet profile in both 125 and 158 grain. They get the job done.

In the unlikely event that you're shooting a K Frame, like an M-65, I'd stay away from them. There are reports of the lighter bullet causing cracked forcing cones and replacement barrels are not available.

It would be from my Highway Patrolman. If it's as hot as you guys say I'll leave it out of the gf's Model 60.

The box is gone anyway.

The Rem/Win .357 loads usually have the "Old Style" SJHP
bullets with a lead tip, unlike the newer ammo that is 100% copper to the tip with either a SP or HP design.
The lead tip is a good design, since it starts to mushroom a little quicker than copper due to its softer makeup and the
accuracy is ok in most guns.
The Remington ammo sometimes is a little faster in fps than the Winchester ammo but that might be in just my guns and chrony readings.
Both are quality ammo and a 110gr 357 will do the job needed in a SD option, if that is all that is on the shelf.
If you like the price, next time grab a box or two.

FYI I have a couple of Winchester "WinClean" 357 125gr JSP in a regular 50 ct white box. Perhaps that is what you saw on the shelf?

1370fps, around 520 ft/lb.

Shawn,
I would have to go search my notes, but when we chronographed the original 38 Treasury load against the more modern Q4204 the difference was about 200FPS. We used 3 4" 66s and averaged the results of 2 6 shot strings from each weapon. Memory puts the numbers right at 1100 and 1300 respectivly. That puts the 357 about 18% faster

The current version of the Treasury load is Winchester RA38110HP+, which they claim at 1155 from a 4" vented test barrel (I do not have any to chronograph). Winchester claims 1295 for the current Q4204 from the same 4V test barrel. That is still 12% increase in velocity

No, it's not "hot ammo", the bullet is faster than 158gr ammo.

The K frame revolver was developed when 158gr ammo was the normal. When 125gr .357 ammo was more in vogue the velocities were hitting 1500 fps and causing crack in the K frame forcing cone. S&W went over to the L frame to cure that problem.

Your M60 is not a K frame and can shoot the 125gr Remington ammo just fine. As far as hot ammo goes Remington 125gr magnum are not on the top end of the scale by any means. It is good ammo and doesn't get the respect it deserves ever since the "new and better ammo" came along.
