Winchester Elite PDX1 Defender ammo?
Hi all - I have a S&W M&P .45 with the 4" barrel. Was wondering if anyone has run or is running Winchester PDX1 Defender ammo and what kind of results you're getting with it. Any problems feeding, extracting, ejecting? Expansion results from test firing would also be appreciated. Looking at the 230 grain bonded jacketed hollow point stuff. Thanks!!!

That is what I carry in my 1911s and my FNH FNX-45 Tactical. It works great in all of them with zero issues. I have only shot them at the range and they are accurate. I read somewhere that that is the .45 ACP round the FBI uses.

Thanks LimaCharlie - good to hear you're having good luck with it. Will probably pick up a box and shoot it to make sure it cycles reliably in the M&P before deciding if i want to use it. I've heard the sane thing about it being the same stuff the FBI uses. If it's good enough for them.........

There is a guy on youtube that does comparative ballistic gel tests for penetration and expansion. He has a test from 2011 with this round and it appears both penetrate and expand well.
Search for tnoutdoors9 PDX1
I had a box as my HD ammo, finally after a year I shot it all. Small test but no issues with feed or eject.

Good video Martya. So many choices out there when it comes to HP self defense ammo. This round will be one of a few differently brands I am going to try to test for accuracy, reliability, penetration and expansion. Thanks for the feedback!

I have a bunch of this and have shot a box through my M&P45 (full size) with no problems at all as far as feeding, extracting, etc. I have mixed it in with FMJs in the same mag as well, it functions flawlessly. I have never tested it for terminal performance, but I'll take what I've found online for that, and it all seems to be good.

Thanks for the input JPriest. I'm curious. When it comes down to it. Is there really that big of a difference between the major brands self defense rounds...i.e. Speer, Federal, Winchester, Hornady, etc? How do you all choose which one to use? Is it brand loyalty, word of mouth, because it's what this or that agency uses. Too many choices.......

The Winchester is good ammo, but like all of the top self defense ammo regardless of brand, it's expensive. I buy and carry last generation SD ammo because it's cheap enough to practice with and I can be certain that it will function perfectly in my guns.
Remember that last generation ammo served millions of LEO's and civilians well for years except in certain situations like penetrating glass. Civilians should never notice the difference in performance between the generations. Their wallets will certainly be happier.
