walmart stock returning?
There was a time, not long ago, hat I couldn't find anything in the ammo case at walmart. the only thing the had was shotgun shells and occasionally a box or so of 7.62x39. but lately over the past few weeks they've had almost a full case. everything except .22lr. ive been finding .40 .223 .556 9mm .45 .380 .38. a few hollow points and lots of fmj. is this a sign that this silly scare/shortage is over? I don't know. but I like paying regular prices again.

I will be glad when things do return to normal so folks can go back to hatin' on WalMart
and calling for boycotts because they drove the LGS out of business!

The big news at my town's Walmart was that they got two boxes/50 of 22 Winchester Magnum rimfire in. Of course no one shoots 22 WMR so they will set on the otherwise empty ammo shelves. Oh yea, they have a selection of shotgun shells.

Mine local walmart shelves seem to be stocked all the time except 22lr/wmr but it comes and goes. Yesterday i went in at around 6pm and went to the hunting section, saw every-type of ammo a militia could need and a overload of 410/12g. i bought 3 boxes of 22lr mini-mags(100) and 1 box of 9mm WWB(100), 1 box of Hornady critical duty(25) and They had something ive neversen before-2 250round bags of 9mm FMJ, they look like reloads and it was only $100 for both. My total was $193.26 with tax. 6 months ago that would have cost a whole paycheck here as all the prices were almost double and ammo was halved...Im a happy camper in VT
Pic is not mine it represents what my wamart shelves looked like when i entered

I have yet to see a Wal-Mart in the Seattle area with any handgun ammo on their shelves. They have shotgun ammo out the wazoo, but nothing for handguns. I grant you I've not been inside every single one, but out of the dozen in the area I've been in five during my work travels and have seen a whole lot of empty shelving.

I don't even look anymore. I reload so the only time I use commercial ammo is when a competition requires it. The only thing I buy at Wal Mart is motor oil and the last time I bought I didn't even check out the ammo availability.

I've had tremendous success at Walmart with 22LR -- Federal Bulk pack, Winchester 555's and Winchester M-22's...you just need to get there early...Friday mornings seem best.

Everything but .22 is showing up to mine. However it seems to vary a lot from store to store and ebbs and flows some.

We have a little more that 6 months ago at Wallys World, but about 20% of the picture posted above.
Scored four boxes of 30-30 the other day. That is rare. There were I and two other guys were asking for ammo at the same time, and the clerk went into the back room and found a box that had just arrived and brought it out for us to pick thru. Limit 3 boxes, I bought 3 and one of the other guys bought the fourth 30-30 with my money and gave it to me.
Yesterday Wally's had about 10 boxes of 22 short. I haven't seen those in a long time. Don't need them, but I may go back and pick up a couple boxes anyway.

Hhahahhhahahhahahahhaaaa!!!!!!!!!!
I will miss hearing the nutty conspiracy theories though about how the goobmint/homeland security/black helicopters are buying all the ammo to keep it out of the hands o' regular 'Mercans!!! Super funny!

THE, WM I frequent the most here-had about 40 boxes short--on the shelf on Sat--dont know if its still there since I have not been there since-but like you---I have not seen any on the shelf in years. I almost picked up a few as an oddity--but decided to pass.

Stopped at one of the non-supercenter Waldomarts tonight when I was out. Still no 9/22 but plenty of 45, 40, misc, shotgun and probably about 60 of the 150 round Federal XM855 value packs. About the same as the closer supercenter. Just FYI I bought a box last week and despite being sold as new boxed they are all seconds. I would say the majority had dings up near neck. The case of AE223BL I got from Graf's was better quality and a little cheaper even with shipping. Oh well I still like to have some XM855 around. I'm waiting for all that mil-spec brown box 12g buckshot no one seems to be buying to go on sale.
Around here most of the LGS and big box sports blow on ammo pricing. When they get with the program I'll give them ammo business (for stuff I don't reload). Only reason I'm buying any 223 is I'm out of powder. Primers, bullets, brass but no stinking powder just yet. 9mm I'm almost out of bullets. Its just an undeniable fact Walmart is the biggest seller of ammo in US. More power to them... better pricing at more locations than you would otherwise be able to find ammo.

I went back today and bought 3 50rnd boxes of 22 short.
Not sure what I'll do with them, but figured I get them for the novelty before they go the way of the Dodo.
The Walmart guy made a big deal of pointing out they were 22 short and I couldn't bring them back if I found they wouldn't work in my gun.
But I have a model 63 so I know they will work.

Went to Walmart on Monday of this week. I almost fainted when I saw .22LR on the shelf. So I bought three boxes and left happy.

They must of got a lot of that 22 short stuff. My local WM has lots of it also. Seems strange the manufacturer would even be running shorts the way things have been recently.

Just got back from WM seems they just got over 10k of CCI standard velocity 22lr at the display and the lady said theres more out back, i cant see why my Walmarts still has a 3box limit when there hasnt been anything empty in months. The price of a box was 3.47 per 50

I'm getting the impression that they way the ammo manufacturers work is to switch their production line over to some type of ammo, and then make a ton of it, and then switch to something else and not switch back until whatever they have just made sells out even if it takes a year.
Probably when Homeland Security announced purchasing a billion rounds of 40 cal, a bunch of ammo manufacturers switched most/all of their production to 40 cal.
That may explain why 40 cal has remained available while most everything else was hard to find for over a year.
Maybe the ammo companies are finally getting past the 40 cal market and back to other stuff.
We can hope, anyway.

I'm still not seeing the flood gates opening. Last two times I was at wally world they had exactly two value packs of win white box at $45 a box. Used to be about 67 bucks cheaper. Last week two value packs of 40S&W they were a little cheaper. Some remington rifle ammo. Guy shows up looking for 12 guage slugs none to be had. Still 3 box limit. Even saw two 50 round boxes of PPU serbian made 45acp. Last two on the rack. Frank

Wow sorry to hear that, you know the funny thing is that walmart app everyone in the other thread is using and having results with? My walmart has just about every box of every ammo and brand but on the site and app every single thing says out of stock or availability unknown....i know its all there though, i wish my walmart would do a charity for your guy's wallyworlds

I've learned one thing about the Wallmart app if it says availability unknown it usually means it's in stock. At least in my area.

I made a trip to my local Walmart "Tumwater Wa" this morning. I few months ago it seemed like inventory was returning and you actually had choices on some calibers. My last few drips have been total busts. Today the only pistol ammo in the case was .40 and .25 and just a couple boxes of each. I guess it is starting over again or never really ended?

I won't buy my ammo from Walmart. I know for some it's the only option or only convenient option. I like supporting my local gun shops even if I sometimes pay a small premium to do so. I also buy a lot online from gun/ammo stores as well. I want to support the industry, especially the local folks. I hate supporting a big box retailer that cares more about my $$$ than my gun rights and ability to shoot, get parts ordered, gun smithing, etc. Any time I see a local gun shop, hardware store or other local small business store close I utter a little profanity toward Walmart and the whole concept of made in China goods replacing our manufacturing base and locally owned businesses. I miss my local hardware store that had free coffee every morning and great chat with all the old timers in overalls the most.

All I know is that in Northern Michigan and Central Kentucky the local gun shops were ridiculous compared to Walmart and the other big box ammo retailers. Same box of ammo was for or five dollars or more at the local place and at Walmart.

About two months ago, my closest LGS had the 100 rd WWB box of .45 ACP FMJ for $62.99. Last time I bought it at Walmart, it was $39.97. That difference is absolutely ridiculous. IIRC, my Bass Pro Shop was usually about $8 more per 100 rd of WWB .40 FMJ.

When I see a local store close I say a few words about the US Government. Sorry, but you are not seeing the truth about why Manufacturing moved to other countries. Government regulations are the problem, not Walmart. WM is just trying to make $. The US Government doesn't make anything.

Getting better... they have been having more of everything but 22 and 9mm. Maybe they sometimes have 22 but I go when I go and don't do the 7am hoarders convention. They did finally start getting more 9. I missed the Federal on Saturday but they had multiple cases of 100rd Win Value packs for $23.99 I believe it was. I reload but I like to have some commercial other than SD around in case I really do finally run out of components. Shoot Straight had a stack of 3-4 brands of 22 500rd+ the other day at $50+ a box. They had that junk RWS for $75. They also finally dropped the price on the pile of Hornady 223 55g 50rd boxes from $35 to $25 and they are still sitting there. Is there any wonder why people buy ammo at Walmart and shun so many LGS's?
I have a win phone and no app that I know of but I use http://ammo-can.net where I can look at all the store by store inventory. Accuracy is marginal but it generally gives you a clue what is around and is faster than that item by item hack.
