As before I told all here how a local shop was putting all the "good stuff" on GB, had a truck load of .22 in the back room that was parted out a box at a time to those who bought a .22. If asked if they had any .22 you'd get "Sorry but its even hard for us to find!".
Now I see a small trickle of CCI standard velocity stuff, some extremely high dollar RWS, and birdshot. And yet there still exists that like in back for "friends".
So yeah maybe some of us are going off half cocked, complaining about an open market, preaching to the choir and such. But where do YOU draw the line?
I don't frequent that place anymore since the "politricks" have entered the picture, and I have no problem going to "Wally world" to buy ammo or weapons...hell if there on the right day you can still get a Colt AR for $1100!
As too putting a few shops outta business, so what? Putting a few of these happy idiots out of our misery would do the business good, bring prices closer to reality and cleanse the pool of opportunists! Some shops owners tend to get a big head anyway and try to go with the flow by gouging there own customers, be they long time or newbies. So flush em already!
Personally I haven't bought a firearm or ammo for the past 4 months, started reloading .38 Special since it gets the lions share of use here now, hell I'm even casting my own bullets too. And have taken my business to pawn shops who seem to be willing to sell at a fair market price.

I don't draw the line. Like 99% of everything else i can live without it. If there are no 22s i move on to something else. Simple as that

I sold a butt-load of ammo back in March and April at the peak of the buying greed and made out like a bandit. I'll be stocking up again in another 6 months or so, or whenever I figure prices have about bottomed-out. That way I will be ready for the next round of idiocy and will be able to do my part once again.
I did the same thing a few election cycles ago with AKM and AR15 rifles and magazines. "Be prepared" as the old saying goes... or is it, "make hay when the sun shines"???

I know nothing about how ammo should be stored but I do wonder what the police/fire marshal would say about that much ammo.I wouldn't consider a public storage place secure.
As far as boycotting these evil hoarders I'm all for it!!!! I well remember how well boycotts worked when gas prices went up.

I've been shooting as always. Reasonably priced ammo/components have been out there if you're patient and shop around.

Nobody gets "gouged". Goods are offered at market value and the user either buys or does not buy. If the goods were not sold, the price was too high. If they did sell, the price was right.
Supply and demand.

a 5 cent per round tax bill was proposed and nearly made it through to state law...now I'm stuck with plenty of (for me) .22 that cost nothing close to what it costs today. Foresight is never bad, hindsight can be.

I noticed the OP hasn't chimed in on this thread recently.
Trying to put a list together and getting a lot of independent minded folks to all move or behave in a certain way....good luck.
Ever heard of "like herding cats?"
Only thing that really works is to stop actually buying ammo from dealers you feel are taking advantage of a perceived shortage.
Ammo isn't milk/bread. If you don't have ANY I guess it might approach milk/bread status. But otherwise move on to the next store or the next.
The internet can be a powerful tool. It's also great for complaining or rambling on.....like I just did.

Let's be honest - 10 years ago, how many 22's did you go through in a session? 50? 100 tops? I have a single shot rifle and get tired of loading it long before I hit either of those numbers.
Now there's the Lego-Like AR 22's with all of their gadgets and geegaw and a whole new generation of shooters who grew up with unlimited life playing Call Of Duty on X-Box. You guys go through rimfire like it was a bowl of popcorn.
The lack of 22 caliber ammunition started before Sandy Hook and likely will continue long after all of the "real" calibers are back on the shelves.
Again - supply and demand.

Many of the responses I've read to this post are missing the point. The OP has a good idea. Keep a running list of online sellers who are gouging. Just let them sit with their overpriced ammunition. As for the statements about we have to pay it to be able to shoot, just don't shoot for a while until you come across reasonably priced ammunition. Burning through bricks of 22 LR isn't about real need, it's about wanting. If we're lazy and/or thoughtless it's gonna bite us all.

And just who are you going to put in charge of pricing? And while you're at it, you need to appoint someone to hand out the "Scarlet Letters".

I shoot around 150-200 rd of .22 in a range trip, and I'm not blasting away with an AR. Mostly slow fire pistol, and taking my time. And I have plenty of ammo. If I make 1 range trip a week, I only need to find 1 reasonably priced brick every 3 weeks to keep a supply, and it's just not that hard.

I wandered into Cabela's on Black Friday, long after the 5 AM rush, and bought a box of 300 for $17.99 in a nifty wood Winchester box!

I bought a box of those a while back on line, I think I paid 19.99, I really only wanted the box, my little buddy came over the house and as soon as she saw it, she said Oh Don can I have that box, I couldn't say no, I thought to myself, I will never get another one, a few weeks ago they had them again for 16.99 so I ordered another one.

Cabela's must have bought a semi truck of those Winchester boxes for Black Friday, since they were available online for well over a full day. I bought one a couple of months ago at $19.99 and didn't feel the need for another one.
Bought 5 boxes of Auto Match from them over the last couple of months.

I bought one box of over-priced ammo, 9mm for a new 9mm gun I acquired and didn't have any ammo, and I needed to check the gun out. Then I promptly ordered dies and bullets for it. I will never buy that scalper-priced ammo, and those who do are foolish.
Now all the local stores have selves full of ammo at pre-election prices. Imagine that!

I won't buy at gun shows, not ammo or components, except for one local couple who have not really raised their prices that much. I buy ammo at Walmart when they have it and at my LGS who is a little higher than they should be but not like those people who send a bunch of old guys to Walmart, clean the shelves and then mark it up at the gunshows 100%.
What is happening is an example of naked capitalism. Irresponsible people destroying a sport and industry in their pursuit of short term profits. They will be gone in ten years but so will the shooting sports as people quit taking their kids to the range, buying new .22s etc.
I can't imagine paying what some people are paying at gun shows for ammo. Once you buy it, what are you going to do with it, it would be like burning dollar bills to shoot it.

Is it really that bad? If someone chooses to pay $80 for a brick of .22 and takes the kids out for an afternoon of plinking and shoots up the the whole brick, it's probably no more expensive than going to the ball game. I wouldn't pay that, but lets not assume that everyone who overpays for ammo is an idiot. Still makes more sense than buying a $10,000 bottle of wine or paying 10 million for a painting that looks like my dog urped on a canvas.

This seems like a good place to post this question. What's up with the ammo prices on GunBroker? I was poking around there checking prices last night and their starting bids on most of the auctions seems to be at least 10% MORE per round than what I can buy it for locally, plus when I buy it from stores around here I don't have to pay for shipping charges either.
Mind you these weren't auctions for 50 round boxes either - I was looking at auctions for 200-500 round quantities. Stupid, absolutely stupid...

I guess somebody's buying them or they would drop their prices, and as long as someone keeps buying them the price will stay there (or go up).

WE NEED TO FIGHT BACK
Most of the new shooters I've met over the last 5 years have very high incomes.I don't think these prices faze them.

Well, start your list - And publish it. At this point folks is fussin' and whinin' and name callin' anonymously. And that's your prerogative.
But I'll just throw out some unsolicited advice, for what it's worth. The OP may want some evidence to back up these allegations before he publishes actual names and accuses real people in public.

Gunbroker prices for SOLD listings have dropped noticeably in the last 3 months. Back then, virtually any 500 rd brick would bring $50-60. Now closer to $35-40. More than most of us would like to pay, but not enough to justify waiting hours at Walmart to buy for resale. If I waited 2 hours pay $24 (plus tax) for a Walmart brick only to sell for $35 on gunbroker (minus fees on that) I'd give it up real soon. The good new is, a lot of those resellers ARE giving it up. .22 is still only coming to my local WW's every 2-3 weeks, but when it does, it has a fighting chance of sitting there past noon.

My local Wally World has a huge amount of .223 ammo, and some other popular rifle ammo. For handgun they have a limited selection, but I did see 45colt, 9mm, 45acp, 40s&w, 38 special, 380acp. Been checking in most every morning for 22's for a Christmas present and nothing.
They have 2 metal ammo cans, which I think said Made in Turkey on them. One with 1,200 rounds of 9mm for $524OTD, and the other with 720 rounds of .223 for $482OTD. Geeze I thought buying in bulk was supposed to be cheaper.

Last week I went up to Kittery, the Trading Post had so many 223's they had case's stacked on the floor, I didn't even ask if they had any 22's, he said they only sell you five box's at a time, they did have a good deal on a M&P 22 for 329.95.

"Gouged"??? What in the H are you talking about? They guy I sold the ammo to seemed elated to get it. He had been looking, couldn't find any, and then we met. We agreed on a price and were both very happy.
I used the proceeds to fund a 3" model 24. I had been looking for one for a long time. I paid almost $900 for it, which was nearly 3 times the price it sold for new. I was happy to get it, and I assume the guy who sold it was happy to sell it. It never once entered my mind that the guy was "gouging" me, or that I should piss and moan like a little girl about it.
Do you have a problem with that deal too?

What is happening is an example of naked capitalism. Irresponsible people destroying a sport and industry in their pursuit of short term profits. They will be gone in ten years but so will the shooting sports as people quit taking their kids to the range, buying new .22s etc.
I can't imagine paying what some people are paying at gun shows for ammo. Once you buy it, what are you going to do with it, it would be like burning dollar bills to shoot it.

Ive been saying that all along. As they say: "Prepare for battle."

Younger people today don't seem to care how much things cost, I do a lot of surf fishing, I'm out most every day, you see these younger guys with a 300.00 pair of waders and a wading jacket that cost about the same, a 800.00 reel and a custom made rod they also paid big bucks for, all this money still doesnt put a fish, on the end of your line.
