20 round boxes of handgun ammo.

Hate to tell you this but just last week I bought two boxes of that ammo at my local wallyworld here in the peoples republic of NY.

That ammo's probably factory seconds or rejects or defective in some way. I wouldn't shoot it if I were you. Send it down here to me and I'll dispose of it safely for you.

Since I only shoot .40, that's all I really pay attention to. Right now, SG has HSTs, Gold Dots, Golden Sabers, Ranger Ts, and a few other SD brands in 50 round boxes. I hopped on over to 9mm, and it looked like they had a decent selection as well.

When the ammo companies found that people would rather pay $20 for twenty cartridges instead of $35 for fifty, the larger box ended up on life support for the LE community.

I ran into a quantity of Federal 9BP and Winchester Ranger in 50 round boxes and stocked up. It was hard to turn it down when it was actually less than the 20 count box. The current craziness finished of the 50 count box for civilians.

It won't magically appear. Doesn't work that way. I buy Gold Dots 9mm 124gr. Around here you'll find them in 50 round boxes all the time but today it might be +p. But for the next month it might only be regular. Then there will be a period where it's only 115gr.

When I bought my Remington golden sabers 125gr hp 38spl +p it was the only SD round available in 38spl and it came in 25 round box.

It's easy to get the 50s. I'd like to be able to buy them from the local gun store instead of the internet or having to drive to a police supply.

It's not that easy actually. B/c since my distributor doesn't have it, I can't buy it and therefore I can't resell it.

I get a lot of ammo inquiries, but mostly I can't deliver since I can't even order it. It's a real pain in the back and I have no idea when it will stop. Will it ever stop? I don't know...

I buy the 20 or 25 round boxes of self defense ammo as that's all they carry many times. I recently bought a couple boxes of .44 Special and was mostly happy they even had any. Priced more than .44 mag too. It's same thing with my .41 mag factory loads.
I mostly reload my practice ammo but do like factory ammo for my carry guns. If I really do want a bigger supply of them I plan ahead and buy them online in greater quantities at my best price.
My dealers stock and sell what sells and that would mostly be 20-25 round boxes. It will make sense for many that only want or need so few rounds.

Do they sell cases of 20 round boxes? And what are the prices.

They sell cases of 20 round, 50 round, 100 round, and loose bulk pack. Prices are less per round than 50 round or 100 round boxes. I often buy 1,000 round loose bulk packs.

No need to have an extra 30 rounds just to burn, when I can spend that cash on practice ammo

This argument only holds a certain amount of water. Its really going to depend on what you shoot and what you pay. If the difference between what you have committed for 20 rounds and what 50 rounds cost is $12.00, simple math says that those extra 30 rounds are only 0.40 each. You've already made a conscious decision to pay a higher amount per round for 20, so the extra 30 are cheaper.

I haven't seen anything bigger then a 20 round box for .50 AE.Good thing because that would place a 50 round box right around a c note a box.

.50AE is beyond the scope of this discussion but I've still not following you. 50 rounds would be cheaper per round than 20. You're still going to need to buy multiple 20 round boxes. You're not saving.

What I'm saying is that it is affordable in some cases. My last purchase of .50 AE was $38.00 a box of 20. Plus three 50 round boxes of .45 acp totaled to $110.00. If the .50 AE came in a 50 count box, I would have had to pass on the 45's if I had been on a budget. Years ago when I carried a four inch 29-2 I would shoot at least once a month with that gun using handloads and finish up with 180 gr jhp's.a 20 round box would reload my gun and speed loaders .

.. because the company's do not sell their top of the line SD
BULLETS to the public !!

HST, FTX and the other top of the line bullets are kept at home.

Most people can buy 20 rounds of ammo ......... it is just to bad that most do not test more than 10 rounds to see if it is 100% reliable, in case they ever need it.

There's another good question. Why do people pay premium money for a company's 2nd line bullet technology. The American consumer does some silly things.

Just ordered 200 rounds of .40 Blazer 180gr and 100 rounds of Federal 180gr HST from SG for 131.70 shipped. Since I'm willing to pay 0.34 a round, or 17.00 a box for target ammo dropped on my doorstep, the HST's cost me 63.70, or 0.64 a round. A 100 rounds of SD ammo may seem like a lot to some folks, but I like to shoot 1 full mag of it every time or every other time I go to the range, just to make sure it still functions in my gun properly.
