Anybody ever use any Magtech 38SPL 158 gr fmc. Was at Cabelas looking for some 38 SPL . The magtech was reasonably priced at $18/50. I've never used this brand.
What's your experience?
I never see any 38spl for less than $20/50 except with a coupon.
Price is right .

I saw some Mag Tec 125gr "GOLD" jhp that also looked nice......
I might have to grab a box of both next trip out to that store.

I hate it when I see a box of ammo at a good price but tell
myself that I really don't need that type of ammo.

Try it.
 
I've used both Magtech 9mm and .45acp... works great. I also have 500 rds of .44 Magnum 240 gr. JSP that I haven't had the chance to try yet.

It's made in Brazil, I think they make solid stuff, and have no hesitation buying and/or trusting it.

I've heard that Magtech also OEM's some of the low cost "range" ammo in certain calibers sold under well known USA ammo makers.

SORRY BUT I HAVE FOUND THIS AMMO TO BE INCONSTANT. IT VARYS GREATLY FROM SHOT TO SHOT . RECOIL AND MUZZLE BLAST VERY DIFFERENT FROM SHOT TO SHOT. I WON'T USE IT. JP
 
i've used it in my 40c, my shield 40 and my shield 9. all have cycled perfectly and have given me tighter groups. so far it is my preferred brand.
 
I've used it with no issues. I've been told that its "dirty" but I haven't really seen that. Since I clean my guns after shooting, it doesn't really matter anyways.

As shown in 307-niners post, it's always good to look over the rounds before loading.
I did buy a box to try. Now, after reading these responses, I feel more confident but will remain alert.
Before using any from a new box, pull the entire try out and run your hand over the head of the rnds to see if any are taller or shorter than others.

I was given some .38spl from a batch of stuff from an elderly lady - from the long-passed husband. She needed cash, and we offered a price for things she clearly didn't need. Kids had carried off the guns, left her with various ammo & accessories. We fronted some on consignment, and made her a bit of a profit above what we originally thought ($6 tagged boxes of .38S&W sold for $30).

No one wanted the MagTech ammo, probably 20 years old, trashed boxes. It all fired, it was dirty. But none to be had on the LGS shelf, so I was happy.

I had this happen with the last box of winchester white box I got in .45 auto.

Gone back to shooting Federal as my mainstay now.

As for MagTech, I have a few boxes but haven't tried it yety.
 
Good ammo at a good price, and you're left with great brass with which to reload.

Magtech 44mag 240 grain JHP is more accurate in my 1894 Marlin than anything I've been able to load so far.
 
I had several problems in the past with Magtech ammo failing to fire in several different guns. None of those guns had a problem with any other ammo. I will not use it again.
 
I've shot THOUSANDS of rounds of Magtech® ammunition in 38 Special and 357 Magnum. It is good ammo and I highly recommend it.
 
I've shot several boxes of Magtech .38 special through my 642-1 without any problems and seemed to hit right on.

Buy with confidence, it's good stuff for the money.
 
I use a ton of the stuff, mostly that 158gr FMJFP load.
Never had an issues, chronos right at 800fps in my 4" guns and spreads of around 25-30fps in most guns from a few 2" J frames, L frame 2.5" ( 242), 5 and 6" Colt PPS and OMM and a 6" 14-3.
