I saw some You Tube videos of amateur ballistics gel testing. It looked nearly as good as many "defensive" rounds. Penetration was consistently in the 12" to 15" range. Even through the FBI standard 4 layers of denim.
Still not sure if I'll carry it, tho at the price, I could actually practice with my carry ammo. Hmmm

That was the load that Winchester originally produced and it has always worked well for me.

I carry and practice with older generation ammunition like the Federal 9BP and Winchester Ranger SXT. At one time it was considered the best available and ten's of thousands of police carried them. I do not have a need to shoot through car glass.

You can purchase the older generation on line for almost the same price as Winchester white box. There is no reason to spend $1.25/rd. for defensive ammo. FWIW, Federal repacks the 9BP under their personal defense line in 25 count boxes for about the same price as the older 50ct.

Picked up some in a pinch at Walmart, cuz I was running low on Gold Dots. Its what I'm carrying now, and seems to run fine in my Shield and SP2022.
I have since picked up some 165gr HST's for $21.50 for 50 on the MassAmmo free shipping deal the other week, and plan on checking them out shortly. If they run with no problems, I'll probably switch to them when I run out of the Winchesters.

Keep in mind there's basically 2 types of "white box" Winchester. The first is the normal stuff labeled personal defense. The other kind is contract overrun, 180 gr and bonded. Some walmarts carry/have carried the contract overrun stuff, usually priced around $20 per box of 50

Took a look at my online retailer

All the Winchester/Ranger/Gold Dot/Federal are all in the same price range. Some are $3 more, some $2 less.

I don't need to shoot through glass either but at one time fmj lead was considered the best available

The Walmarts around here stock this in 9, 40, and 45. It's about the same price as WWB and Federal FMJ and I really like it in all 3 calibers. I've seen it $20 more at Cabelas. Crazy right?
