Default S&W .38 Special + P 125 JSP Ammo

I was passed a full box of this jacketed soft point ammo along with some other items. I'm trying to determine how old it is. It is in a blue and white box.

Can anyone help me?

The S&W brand ammo was produced from around 1971-1980.

Norma made some good hot ammo in its days. Their 158gr FMJ-SWC ammo in .38/.357 were some good penetrators and their .38 110JHP Norma Magnum load was quite hot for a .38Spl load!

Unfortunately their 10MM stuff was very erratic in the velocity department. Out of my 1066 some rounds had heavy recoil throwing a large fireball and then some were powderpuff loads, all out of the same 20 round box.

Produced by Fiocchi and pretty hot stuff! I would not fire the 125's from a Revolver you care about due to excessive flame cutting of that ammo. Won't blow up your gun of course, but the 125's (especially the HOT Fiocchi) will cause excessive flame cutting. Again, no real harm - I just don't like the cut line when so easily avoidable. The S&W / Fiocchi ammo was loaded to European spec's and is hotter than domestic SAAMI spec USA made ammo.

Save as a curio/collectible ( about 40 years old) or shoot out of a lever action rifle if you want. You can also pull the heads and use the primed cartridges to reload 158's. I just shot a bunch of that stuff myself (from a rifle). My Dad left me a few boxes........
