Hi everybody thanks for a great forum,i live in nsw Australia I own a 686 6 inch s&W very happy, I am new to pistol target shooting,after nearly 40 years of rifle shooting, for What I would like to know are FIOCCHI small pistol primers good as FEDERAL small pistol primers, the reason for this question is Federal small primers are very hard to find in this country, I was a my local gun shop yesterday and he checked on his pc and said there is a back order of federal small primers of 27 mllion . thanks everybody for your help.

Hi clancee. Welcome to the forum. I haven't used any of Fiocchi's primers but I can say that their ammunition is as good as any comparable ammo.

Never tried Fiocchi primers but their ammo seems to shoot just fine. Been through CCI, Federal and Winchester SPPs and never noticed any real difference even over a chronograph. Though using mixed head stamps may influence that.

Haven't used Fiocchi primers alone, but I've shot a lot of their ammo. Based on my admittedly single data point experience, I think you might find Fiocchis harder than Federals. If your 686 is factory sprung, there shouldn't be a problem popping the Fiocchis; if it's tuned for a lighter double or single action pull, you might experience light strikes and have to make necessary adjustments to the revolver, or wait on the Federal primers, which are the softest out there.

I have used the Fiocchi primers and they seem to be just fine.

Have a family member that bought some and in some 9mm
in a Springfield XD9 4" pistol........

He has gone through 350 w/o any not working.
Still early but looking good, so far.

In my experience they're fine primers. I bought these Fiocchi large pistol primers several years ago and would have bought more if I'd come across them again. They came in a box of 2500. Worked just fine with every cartridge I had that used LPP's (.45 acp and .41 mag). Kept a couple boxes for later comparison and kind of forgot about them.

Federal primers are known to be sensitive and many loaders use them for revolvers with trigger jobs that lighted the trigger springs to ensure ignition. The Fiocchi's may be a slightly harder primer but I never had any problems with them in my .45's with trigger jobs or my .41 mag revolvers with standard triggers.

Thanks everybody for your help,i brought 4bricks the other day payed $6.95 per 150 for small pistol primers, took to range used in very lightened trigger job 686.Out of 12 rounds 8 worked 4 miss fires which we were pleased with.With club 686 with lighte ntrigger but not as much as the first one all worked fine. Afew of the boys at the club are going to give them a go, thanks again for your help like forum very much.
