In my full size I use either the Win RA45T or RA45TP or Fed HST 230's . Was wondering what to use in a Glock 30S with a 3.6" barrel . Not so sure I want +P .

I use either Winchester Ranger or Federal Hydrashok/HST 230 grain HPs. I don’t care for +P in the smaller guns. I’m sure the Remington brass jacketed stuff would be good too, but I’ve never bought any to try. I like the exterior shape of the HST bullet better than the older Hydrashok, which is more angular. That said, never had a feed failure with either one.

Not much difference between +P & std pressure in 45acp . Some like the 185 +P either Rem GS or Corbon , but I've never used them either .

I would avoid +P in that short of a barrel. In a 1911 shooting +P is not going to work well with certain ammo without first changing out the springs. +P is going to result in faster slide movement that can affect ejection and loading. I would surmise the same problems that occur with 1911s pop up with other pistols.

I just use 230 grain hardball in my short ATI Titan 3.1" barrel, or 200 grain SWC cuts a big hole to let the air out quickly. I think the reduced velocity from a short barrel, most hollow points would have limited expansion. Don't use lead bullets in your Glock though.

Given the 108 year track record of standard pressure 230 grain ball, I don't think I would bother with +P, or count on expansion from a 3.5 inch barrel; but I'm old, and certainly no expert.

I settled in with the Federal 230gr HST "Tactical" , the non+P load for my Colt Officer's Model. This video sealed the deal for me.

I think it would be hard to go wrong with either the Federal 230 grain HST or the Winchester Ranger T 230 grain hollowpoint loads. I'd stay away from +P.

+1 on HST. I don’t use ball because there are better options and over penetration is an issue for me. If this was 1970 again I would use ball. Technology is much better in current rounds. Don’t see that much advantage in +p.

Since you already have/use two or three .45 ACP loads, I would try them all in your Glock to see if they function 100%. If they all do, practice and carry with the least expensive one. :)

Loads I use in my Gov't guns are both +P & am worried about fast followup with them in the smaller subcompact Glock . I'm really leaning toward standard pressure loads in 230gr . I did pick up a 20rd box of Rem GS 185's non +P for it , but would prefer the heavier bullet . I have to wring it out regardless before I put it in the rotation .

... I have to wring it out regardless before I put it in the rotation .

^^^ That's the key. I have a little ol' Shield 45 for carry, and a great big FNX 45 Tactical (15+1, yowsa!) for home, and I've "wrung out" a variety of SD ammo in both before choosing what to use. Everything I tried cycled reliably in both guns, so my choice came down to accuracy. Interestingly, the most accurate round in both was Federal Tactical Bonded 230g +P. However, its margin of accuracy over the other rounds I tried (HST 230g standard and +P, Gold Dot 230g +P) was not great, so any of those should serve you well. But "wring them out" yourself first to be sure. And while I've never shot a Glock 30S, based on my experience with my Shield 45, the use of +P ammo in a short-barreled semi-auto has not been a problem.

I never used +P in my CS-45. It has enough recoil and stopping power without +P. At the range any standard 230 grain ball ammo will work but I always shot a magazine-full of premium stuff at the range before I trusted it in the gun. Hydra-Shok, Critical Defense, Golden Saber - they all worked so I stoked the CS-45 with those types of ammunition all of the time.

In my Glock 30, Winchester (White box black letters) 185gr+p FMJTC for one extra mag. Speer Gold Dot 230gr JHP is the main load carried. The Plus P does let you know that its there but has tremendous penetration. A third mag carries Super Vel high velocity 185gr+p.
The Federal Ranger 230gr is another excellent round.
In a 45acp,any 185gr or 230gr hollow point +p or not will work.
Shoot what your gun likes(accuracy) and you shoot best!

Be SAFE and Shoot often!

I am in the same boat w a G 30...trying to decide on a carry round....I'll look at the Federal HST & the Winchester Ranger...I like Golden Saber but now they R called what? Ultimate Defense? Which round is actually the Golden Saber repackaged?
