Default Shooting a gun more than normal due to ammo shortage.

I've shot my Seecamp .32 more in the last couple months than I have in 5 years, because I'm short of everything else. 150 rounds yesterday through that tiny gun leaves my hand buzzing. What have you shot more than normal due to ammo choice. ??

I am sure that I will not be alone shooting more 22 L.R. With 10k rounds I have enough to keep my family and myself shooting for the next two years.

In January I brought a Bravo CMMG .22 Conversion Kit for use in a AR-15. I brought a Ruger Wrangler about this time last year in anticipation of the elections which unfortunately didn’t go our way. I have only shot it once at the range but that is going to change.

With the C-19 b.s. and new push for more gun restrictions I am giving a lot of thought of buying a Taurus TX-22 pistol later this year.

When Wal Mart was shedding its pistol ammo last year I bought 300 rounds of .25 ACP for five bucks a box. I was pretty sure I had a .25 in the safe.

I recently dug my old FN 1906 and have put 100 rounds downrange. I doubt I would have in other circumstances than the current ones.

7.62 NATO for me... I had a friend pass away years ago.. he had a belt-fed 1919 in 308 for "fun".. would buy milsurp ammo by the pallet.. helped his wife buying a "quantity" in big metal cans.. probably more than I can use in my lifetime.. so it is my go to plinking ammo for now... get funny looks now ripping off 20 mags of the big stuff...
and none is for sale or trade...

Shooting more but really because the (indoor) range is much less crowded and noisy than before. They still sell up to 100-rd (woohoo) of pretty decent hi-vel Federal .22 per range visit. That’s plenty per visit for me. They have PMC 9mil (50) for $18 & I think I heard the 20-rd .223’s are $12. Pretty savvy owner out there, I have to assume he has truckloads of ammo in the warehouse.

I've been shooting my M&P15-22 almost exclusively. I haven't picked up a long gun in years until last year and not only is it the cheapest I have to shoot, but it is incredibly fun as well.

I see it as the best combination you could possibly ask for, especially in these trying times.

I’ve been laying off to do 3 things. First, my custom High Standard Bullseye gun needs some TLC and to have the vent rib with iron sights reinstalled... I have an abundance of 22s.

Second, I need to set up the 9mm dies and load at least a test run of 125 gr RNL, with an eye toward finding a go-to load I can make in quantity. I’m embarrassed to admit I can’t remember ever loading this caliber. My 639 Franken-Smith is hungry.

Third, I have to dig out my 45 ACP dies and load up a quantity for my various 45 pistols. I have an established standard load for those, I just have to dig out my dies.

For once I was “ahead of the curve” and had plenty of 22s and reloading components on hand when the current craziness hit. At my age, I may even have a lifetime supply if I don’t try to get back into regular competition.

Froggie

PS I didn’t mention my 32s and 38s because I’ve sort of matching my reloading with my shooting on those. Truth to tell, I can shoot whenever and whatever I want if I could just get off my lazy adze and get out to the range.

Unfortunately, all my guns are in popular calibers.

While there is a certain validity to the concept of consolidating calibers, there's also an argument for having a variety of guns in less-popular calibers. I know shortly after the pandemic started I sometimes wished I still had my Glock 23. With conversion barrels and mags I could've been able to shoot 9mm and .357Sig as well as .40S&W.

Yeah I’m discovering the fun of air guns now. Actually fun if you have several types of targets.

Was shooting my Winchester Model 52 regularly, almost daily until the weather got too bad. Just steel, no blah paper. If I miss I know it’s me not the rifle.

I switched from shooting handguns to shotguns 3 years ago because I found busting clays to be much more interesting that putting holes in paper. However when it's 20 something with a 10 mph breeze blowing I just can't generate any interest in shooting Skeet. So when it's too cold to bust clays I'll head to the pistol range in the basement of the Shotgun club house.

Default Sure is quiet

At the shooting range. Which used to be completely full and now has less than 1/3 of the lanes occupied.

Bad part is brass bucket has little to no pickings.

I'm still shooting everything I was shooting before, as I reload and have plenty components.

Talking

You guys are shooting up some really nice ammo. Millions of dollars are going up in smoke every day.

I on the other hand have found the solution. 7.62 x 54R. Quit laughing !

I bought a bunch of 440 round cans of the stuff from J and G in Prescott, 10 years ago when they were CHEAP ($0.16/round).
Mosin's with their steel butt plates kick like a mule and it's hard to shoot more than a few rounds in one sitting.
I figure I have a lifetime supply of Russian ammo. Quit laughing.

My BIL, Seal Team One, and I shoot out to 1000 yards in the desert. We never hit anything, but we have a good time. We describe the winner as the guy that was luckiest. Mosins are not known for accuracy.

I really never thought I would shoot any of it. I'm a revolver guy. But with the Plague of the World, Progressives owning politics, and ammo prices through the roof; I think I can still shoot. Not like before, but still shooting.

My Mosin Nagants are coming alive after a 10 year nap. Better than nothing.

Well, I got Goal #2 accomplished yesterday. It turns out one of the rotors to my old Pacific Pistol Measure drops a very nice 4.1 grains of 231, so I loaded a test batch of 20 rounds of 125 gr RNL bullets in once fired FC cases and prepped another hundred of the same cases to load the same way if I like the test batch.

I think I’ll go back to my Goal #1 today and see whether I can get that old High Standard up and running today... I have a “business trip” out to the range Friday and if I can take those two guns and a batch of good ammo for each, it will really add to my quality of life!

I guess the 45s and Goal #3 will have to wait for the weekend. I love it when a plan starts to come together.

Froggie
