What the heck, I brought a box of Rem UMC 38 Special +P 125 gr SJHP (#L38S2B) to the range for chronographing and to send a few down range at random targets.

Firearm: S&W Heavy Duty 38 Spl - 5 inch
Load: Rem UMC 38 Spl +P 125 gr SJHP
Shot #/MV fps
1. 1025
2. 1026
3. 1015
4. 1019
5. 1010
6. 958 (yikes)
7. 997
8. 999
9. 1018
10. 1014

Summary:
Hi 1026 fps
Lo 958 fps
Avg 1008 fps
ES 68
SD 19

Notes: Except for the 958 fps outlier, this load shot consistently and was even accurate to sights from 15 to 25 yd targets. Recoil was tamed by the large S&W HD (just dig this firearm). Fun range load with a proven track record, particularly, in 4 inch and up barrels.

I have had very good results from that "Old style" SJHP design from both
Remington and Winchester, that have the hunk of lead at the tip of their bullets.

They actually mushroom better out of a short barrel, than the Speer Gold Dot, design, in the 125 gr weight bullets.

I have yet to try the newer Remington Golden Saber ammo, that is said to be their best line of SD ammo in the 38 & 9mm short barrels.

The 110 & 125 gr Jhp bullets are nice in a 38 for light target practice and
the +P ammo is still, very manageable in the lighter revolvers.

Thank you for the post and data.

I got a bunch of this ammo, I think.
Need to dig it out and check the Head stamp.
Back during one of the ammo panics I bought 500 rounds from a private party.

The Remington 125 grain 38+P SJHP and 357 Mag SJHP is my favorite ammo and my carry loads. Very accurate, effective and affordable.

Thank you for sharing. That's the ammo I carry in my Colt DS. I'd never seen chrono'd results for that ammo, all I know is that it shoots to the point of aim at 10 yards, and will put them all in a golf ball-sized group.

No, YOU put them all in a golf ball-sized group. ;) Good shooting, Robert! Wanna back me sometime? Happy holidays to you!

My favorite load in .38 Spl. Yes, they do perform well in snubbies too. Remington did excellent work when they designed their SJHP revolver bullets.

@38SPL HV,
As usual, thank you very much for posting your results. I know how much work it takes to do these tests and I appreciate it.

That 1 round must have been a fluke. Possibly the round or maybe a glitch with the Chrono? That is a big ES but then again, it does happen with some factory ammo.
