Two of the four Walmarts I visited yesterday in SW Houston have initiated a policy of limiting ammo purchases to two boxes/person. I will not be going to these again. Of course, the clerks at these were 3rd-worlders. Going into Walmarts here is like stepping into a 3rd world country.

This thread is about ammo being available at Wal-Mart right? And there have been many posters bellyaching about not being able to buy ammo at Wal-Mart or other big box stores (myself included). And yet here we are having someone complaining about limits on the sale off ammo because they can't come in and "clean the shelves". This my friends is what is causing the ammo "shortages" people going in and buying as much as they can so that they get theirs and screw everyone else. Atta boy to that store! I wish more would do the same.

If Walmart or any other seller wants to limit sales, that is the sellers perogative. I have no objection to such limitations; I just will not shop at places with such limitations.
What is particularly tiring is hearing all these complaints (sour grapes) about what other buyers do. Whether a person purchases one or 500 boxes of ammunition is of no concern to anyone else. Everyone has the same opportunity. If someone buys everything before I have a chance to do so, more power to him. I certainly do not expect anyone to conduct his business to please me.

That's fine as long as you have enough ammo on hand at the moment, but the next time you go to < insert name of your favorite store or online supplier> is out of stock or if you reload, < insert name of your favorite store or online supplier> is out of primers and bullets, that may change your mind.
And speaking of online suppliers, have you seen what some of these people are getting on the auction sites for ammo! Ridiculous! So just for grins, I posted this: http://www.gunbroker.com/aucti...m.asp?Item=127366054

I found this on another firearms forum. This guy hits the nail on the head.
I have given up looking for .380 FMJ and can think of no military organization using it. NRA isn't to blame, Obama isn't to blame, we the consumer are to blame. Like the fat person hovering over the crab legs pan at a seafood buffet; so afraid they won't get any so when it comes out he takes all of it when it does. Problem is no body else gets any. Then we get the other type of offal buying low and selling high, less like capitalism, more like scalping. I've seen on other forums 50rd 9mm FMJ selling for $50 a box. I do so hope and pray they lose as much money as the oil speculators did when the prices dropped.
That being said, one has to ask ones self who is profiting from this shortage? Follow the money trail and you'll find motive. All I come up with is the manufacturer. Have they increased production to reach demand? No, why should they when prices and profit margin are being driven up. If they raised prices a couple bucks before there would have been outrage, now who cares, it's cheaper than the scalpers. Seems they're the only one's profiting, it's a shame Mr. Heston isn't here to ask those industry leaders some embarrassing questions.
On the politically correct side of the house, if I've offended anyone who has been profit mongering from this shortage, selling at outrageous prices feeding off fear, or buying everything off the shelf as it comes in, the term offal was directed specifically at you.

I'm much less likely to be annoyed by an empty shelf than by a full shelf of ammo the store won't sell me.
As far as the scalpers, they didn't cause the shortage, they just took advantage of it. In one way they are even providing a service, by making it available to you at a price. Without them you would have to go to the extra trouble to find it on your own. Which IS possible if you are willing to make the effort. The manufacturers are running at full capacity, they ARE shipping ammo, and Wal-Mart receives it and sells it all the time. If you weren't there at 6AM before the shelves emptied you might not have seen it. I don't have any interest in chasing it, so I order what I can't find locally by mail order, and while in some cases it's back-ordered, I eventually get it.

A local Walmart has put a 10 box limit on all ammo just recently. If I wanted, I would get my wife to buy 10 also.
There are lots of new gun owners out here.
Lots of new CCWs out here.
Lots of people of of work.
Lots of LEOs getting laid off.
It feels like a good formula for trouble.
Not good.

I doubt that anyone takes you seriously enough to be offended. I am, however, surprised that the moderator did not edit your comment in keeping with the civility of the forum. I understand your frustration in not being able to find ammunition, but disparaging comments about other posters, while possibly making you feel better, is not productive.

The manufacturers are running 24/7 and have NOT raised their costs to the distributors as far as I know. I just don't understand why people are so quick to curse the producers of this country. I guess it's the influence of the left.
Regarding that final comment...well...we don't talk like that around here.

Photoman,
There's a relatively unknown talent on the radio, a guy named Beck. He thinks setting up scenario's that pit one group against another, is the "get 'em" herd mentality. It's key, if the 3 moving Walnut shells with only one green pea underneath strategy is to work. You know, keep us concerned with which of us may have "more"?. You know more land, more money, more homes, more ammo.
"GET 'EM"!!!!!

First of all look at my earlier posts. I have a small gun store locally that has plenty of ammo at good prices so I have plenty. Second of all the article/post is from another site and I am not the author (I made that clear). I think if you do research you will find a lot of posters feel the same way. Some are not so fortunate (ammo availability) and I hate to see people taking advantage of a situation like this. You see it all the time everything from gas to supplies after a hurricane.
And concerning moderation: you know what comes before the Second Amendment? The First Amendment!

The Walmart nearest me has a 2 box limit!!! And they still never have any pistol ammo.
I did pick up 6 boxes of Blazer Brass 9mm at another Walmart early this morning. I told the clerk that I would leave the other 14 boxes that were on the shelf for others. He said that he has a "guy" that comes by every day and buys all the 9mm.
My son went by a few hours later and they were cleaned out. Guess the "guy" had made his daily trip.

The "guy" probably owns a gunshop and is marking up and reselling the ammo.

flop-shank you're probably right. We have a gun range/store owner locally that is buying up ammo at the big box stores . I saw his wife in Wal-Mart one day scanning the ammo cabinet so I went to the range shortly after to check prices and availability and lo and behold he had plenty and I mean plenty of blazer brass , WWB value packs and Remington green box almost double the price. I find it coincidental that these are the same brands that Wal-Mart sells. I don't shop or shoot there anymore because I found a small gunshop with great prices and great owners.

Fortunately, I have been buying a little at a time for years, so I probably have a life time supply of most rounds that I use, but I have not seen 357 mag at a reasonable price in months and I am down to 1,000 rounds. For some ;reason, our Wal-Mart gets a lot of value pack 38 special and 45 apc.

A lady manager at one of the Walmarts I frequent, recently told me she has a man who comes in at 12:00 midnight and waits for the ammo to be put on the shelves at 6:00 AM. Whether for personal use or resale, that is dedication.

Scott.. did your winner really pay $5 for that single round ? good for you for donating the proceeds to rimfirecentral.
I was at wallys today and they had plnety of 30-06 E-tip in 150grn and 180grn also had plenty of 20 and 12 ga birdshot value packs. they also had a few boxes of .223 TNT and silvertip .243. among some otehr calibers. few boxes each of core-lokt 25-06 and 7mag
i ended up with a box of the e-tip 30-06 for testing in my rifle ( PRK is mostly lead free now) and i bought 500 rds of CCI Mini mag .22 they had CASES of these in the plastic 100 rd box for $6. im headed out to another county's wally tomorrow.
last time i was at the one where i bought today they had all the blazer brass 9mm .40 and .45 you wanted. the kid today said he orders as much as he can and they get sparse boxes of oddball stuff shipped in. im getting nervous all my .357s may be going hungry.

The transaction ended a few hours ago and I have not yet heard from the winner, but I assume (hope!) they will make good. It was a legitimate auction and the reserve was met, so if they do not pay, then we have a problem. I will probably have them make the payment directly to Rimfire Central and I will match it (or more!).

smokester I have a question for you - if you mow grass for a living for example - how much an hour should you charge? over minimum wage? any more I would consider that greed since you consider me greedy because I do not trust D C pols to not regulate ammo and I BUY ALL I WANT - it is my money - I worked 70 to 80 and 90 hrs a week for years and chose not to blow it on stupid things and now can afford ammo

I guess each Wal-Mart gets to decide on their own. The one in Gonzales has signs up saying there is a 6 box a day limit. It'll be pretty easy for people to get around it though.
I have a guy who works there and he lets me know when they get some in. Sunday they put out 12 boxes of the 250 rd UMC 9mm. I bought one for $50. I've been trying to get up to 1000 rds for each caliber I own, and 250 rds did it. One box was all I could afford anyway. My buddy was going to buy some too, on his lunch break. He went to the drive through and was back in 20 min. In the mean time someone had bought all 11 boxes that were left along with the 3 or 4 boxes of .357mag they had.

ChinaSea, Let me ask you a question... Say that there is a shortage of let us say gas. And we are in line to get gas.. I have a tanker truck and you have a vehicle you drive back and forth to work or play. Now lets just say I want to "stock up" just in case and to make sure that I get all the gas that is available. Would you not be a little "tweaked" that I just bought all of the gas? Now what if the owner came outside and said.. You can only have 20 gallons so the rest of the line can have some of the gas too. Now doesn't that make more sense? We are doing this (ammo shortage) to ourselves.

And once again read my earlier post... I have plenty of ammo. Also we have a gun store owner locally that keeps his shelves stocked and his prices are good. I just don't feel the need to clean the shelves everytime I see ammo at the local wally world.
