Default Got a few really neat rounds of ammo

Bought a few items at a yard sale yesterday. Part of the items was a bag of 45 Colt brass. 2 dollars. When I checked the brass last night I had 90 pieces of brass and 10 pieces of loaded ammo FA 45 Colt dated 9 11. The primers also have a small u in the primer. Kinda neat. All the brass is good current style/type brass Winchester. oh the loaded is round flat nosed lead bullets

The U stamped on a primer means U.S. Cartridge Company. Our friend DWalt may be able to give us some more info on that company.

Primers marked with a U are UMC/Remington manufacture. US Cartridge Company rounds in my collection have either a block US or an intertwined US on the primer. The practice of marking the primer came into use during the transition from black powder to smokeless. The manufacturers were trying different priming formula compounds for the newer smokeless powders and the marking was likely intended for quick & easy identification of both primers and loaded rounds. The use of marked primers seems to have faded out sometime in the 1930's IIRC.

I had some marked primers in shotshells made by Winchester that the primers were no good on. I would say an earlier primer that was non corrosive. They were made late teens early 20s I would say. I also had some shotshells that had a fairly thick ring with a small area for the firing pin to hit in the middle. Maybe Winchester. I am pretty certain the early non corrosive Remington priming(Kleanbore)were developed early mid 20s . I also remember UMCC before being bought by Remington but don't remember their brand name for the primers. I also remember seeing USCC primers marked as Desi 2358 stated. Somewhere I have most of a box of USCC primed cases 10 s I think.

Desi is right. My old memory mixed the two up and was wrong as usual.

You couldn't go wrong for two bucks.
Sounds like the 10 complete rounds are reloads. Being the cautious type, I wouldn't shoot them.
