Default Treasure Hunting for Ammo

Well, within the last couple months since joining the RNG club, and beginning to bullet shoot again I have been consuming a fair amount of ammo in 22, 9mm and 45acp.

I was out in the garage a couple days ago, and I noticed my 6 or so 50 cal ammo cans in a corner that I have been dragging around for most of 5 decades, so I got into 2 of them. I found near 1K rounds of Remington 22 in 100 plastic containers marked $2.39. I found a box of 95 gr JHP 9mm Super Vels, remember them? Some 38 super vels, a couple boxes of 410 shotgun ( never owned one ), lots of 22-250 shells and empty brass, the same for 222 ammo, 2 full boxes of 270W, and a lot of 30-06.

Soon I will go into other boxes and see what is there. I know there is a bunch of 38 and 45 acp that I have had since the 60's.

Found some of my 357 reloads from 1976. 10 gr of 2400 I think the recipe said.

I think it is time to burn it up.

About a year ago I was trying to straight up my garage after a couple of moves and losing track of my "system". I keep brass in five gallon buckets. I found one unmarked bucket in with brass filled buckets. I opened it expecting to find more 45 ACP brass. It was stuffed full of .22lr bricks with miscellaneous loose ammo filling the cracks and crevices. For the life of me I don't remember doing this.

Perhaps the ammo fairy left you a gift while you were sleeping.

We don't have ammo shortages because people took the time to get stocked up when it's readily available and priced right.
When a shortage does hit those same people are not in the ammo buying market ...they're able to ride it out .
The ones who contribute to the shortages are those who don't have enough on hand and are rushing about in a panic buying up what ever they can find.

Is there another kind of shooting I am not aware of that does not require shooting bullets ? Never heard the term " Bullet Shooting" before .

Agreed, as I've been known to say "the time to buy ammo is when you don't need it"

I had a pretty good accumulation of loaded rounds, bullets, cases, powder, primers, etc. when OBomb was about to get elected the first time. My like minded wife told me I was ok stocking up while it was still available and cheap. I could probably get by with never buying a loaded round again.

Think trapshooting. Shot shells are different from bullet cartridges

Shot is made from lead and propelled by powder , just another kind of bullet.

Got enough loaded ammo and reloading components, could last about 10 years shooting as I do. We go twice a week to shoot at the local range.

Curious use of terminology.
OP may not be an experienced shooter. But that’s okay, he will eventually get the terminology down.

Well, suffice it to say that I did not invent the distinction. When I was president of a 1000 member club we had 13 trap fields and 8 skeet fields, but at one end of the club, we were home to the Hartford Rifle Club. They had their own outdoor ranges and indoor range. Those guys never migrated to the clay target fields and they were referred to as the " bullet shooters ".

As for me, I believe that I have gained enough experience in the last 65 years of shooting

So it's a local term , that explains that . I got a couple of years on you and had never heard the term used. Now I know.

Wow, I'm the dense individual who misplaced a bunch of .22lr ammunition and even I could figure out what you meant by " bullet shoot" and RNG.

Congratulations on your visit from the ammo fairy!

This is why I keep a spreadsheet of bulk ammo. I started after I bought some 22 thinking I was running low but when I tried to put it in the "empty" can it was already full.
