Moonclips for Conceal\Open Carry-DO or DON"T
I have been thinking on making my 629-1 Moonclip compatible for conceal carry. I have heard of them bending when carried regularly;does anyone know of any Titanium moonclips or ones that don't bend easily? I need some good advice, I know I could use speedloaders, but the moonclips are a little faster, so ?????

I don't know of any titanium clips available. I think that if you keep the moonclip in a secure holder like those suitable for IDPA then it won't bend.
However, I don't think the headaches you may get switching to moonclips are worth the slight extra speed when reloading. Moonclips can be brass sensitive, some brands may work some may not. You may have ignition issues if the clips aren't perfect and your primers too hard. Counting in the cost of getting the cylinder cut, the moonclips and holders I just don't see it's worth the quicker-by-a-second reload.
Safariland makes a Comp-1 for the 629. It releases with a hard push rather than a twist release like the HKS loaders.

I haven't had any such issues with my moonclip and caliber converted j-frame. When I carry my moonclip capable 586 L-Comp I use either a rig with speed loaders pouches and put two moonclips in each, or a nylon cell phone pouch that holds two moonclips perfectly. I find that the factory S&W moonclips hold up fine. The cases stay in them securely and I haven't had any bend, even when carried loose in a pocket. They're definitely faster than speed loaders, I'm not left with anything in my hand, and all the empties eject together. Works for me!

I carry my 325NG with 1/3 clips loose in my pocket. Maybe not the fastest in the world, but it works. The rounds move a little in the clips so there is no binding/bending issues, and all that I've shot at the range seem to function.

I carried a Mod 25 in 45 ACP with Half Moon clips before there were Full Moon clips with no problems. Once Full Moon clips became avialable I switched to them.
I carried 4 of them in a Dade Speed loader carrier while on duty and just put a "few" of them in my pants pocket when off duty, with not problems.
With a 44 Mag S&W I just carry the Safariland Speed loaders in my pants pocket, with no problems.
I have carried the HKS in my pocket as well, with no problems but I "feel" the Safariland are a little more secure...
Never really considered having a 44 Mag modified for Moon Clips...
But I shot PPC for several years and my Speed Loader Technique is pretty good, but not quite as fast as my Moon Clip Technique.
The only negative to using Moon Clips is you cannot "top off". It is either reload all 6 or nothing.
When I carried a 44 Mag, I carried 2 speed loaders and a 12 round Competition loop carrier, so I did have the option if I only fired a few rounds, and conditions allowed I could "top off" my revolver.

I have pocket-carried moonclipped ammo for my little 940, for my 681+ PC 7-shooters, and for my 625. I've yet to have any problems with any of them bending or losing cartridges. The 7-shot clips do worry me a little, as they seem a little less sturdy than the others, but as I said, they've not been a problem yet. If I had one of the 8-shot N-frame .357s, I'd probably only use speedloaders. I've seen several comments, including ones from Clint Smith, that lead me to believe that the 8-shot clips are quite prone to bending.

I do not trust my thin 8 shot .357 moonclips for concealed carry. Even if your loaded rounds don't get bumped hard enough to bend the moonclip, a round or two can become partially dislodged and create all kinds of problems. I have seen Hearthco moonclips used with Starline brass at the ICORE matches and this definitely seems like the best setup.
I have been carrying my 625s concealed for quite a few years now and I never have trouble with the moonclips. The 625 is as foolproof a moonclip gun as you will find.
I would never moonclip a good .44 Magnum revolver. You're still going to be stuck with the thin moonclips and all their various problems. A good speedloader would be a much better choice.

Thanks for all the good advice
I think I will just stick to the safariland speedloaders. I don't want to have to part with my .44 mag to wait for the conversion, and I am fast enough with the speedloaders.
Thanks again guys,

You wouldn't have to part with your gun, just the cylinder, and after the conversion you'd still be able to use it without moonclips if you wanted.

I often carry a moon clipped conversion Model 642. When I do, the cylinder is fully loaded (with a moon clip), and I carry a second, fully loaded moon clip in an old prescription pill bottle (plastic) in my pocket for a reload. I also have a fully loaded Speed Strip on my belt for a total of 15 rounds.
Regards,
Dave

I've carried my L-Comp and a couple of extra moonclips. No problems with bending or displaced rounds. But I haven't done it every day for years either. I like the moonclips a little better than the speedloaders, but only a little. I've got HKS and Safariland style speedloaders as well. I really need to play with all three options and see which one I like for daily carry.
But, I've got the choose the .357 to do it with! I would have said my L-Comp for years, but I've just gotten a Ruger GP-100 Royal Phoenix that I LOVE. No moonclips for it, just speedloaders.
