Fess up, who else keeps a gun in the bathroom.
Just watched the War Wagon again the other night. Both Lomax and Tau had gun belts strapped over their longhandles in the morning.
So I keep a pistol in the drawer in the bathroom, anyone else?

Well, I don't "keep" one in the bathroom...but I have been known to take one in with me, a gun magazine (reading, not ammo) or two, and a cup of coffee...for a while.

Believe me, after I get done in the bathroom, no one needs a gun in that room.

A stainless revolver in a ziplock bag works great as a shower gun.

A cheap baggie, so it can be fired through the plastic, and you shouldn't be there long enough to require stainless. Flapjack

I don't keep a gun in the bathroom. I either have it on me or the closest one is about 4 steps. I live in what we call, up here, a cottage. Small home and three guns covers the whole first floor. My 24 year old daughter, Meghann, has the entire second floor. God help anyone who gets past me...

Proper Etiquette
If you are in a public restroom and your gun falls out of your holster and into the next stall, what is proper etiquette in this situation. I have learned by watching CNN that toe tapping is a no-no.

Why do you make this sound so strange? I would say this is when you may be at your most vulnerable point if a home invasion were to happen. So yes, I have a pistol in the top drawer. And yes it is in a bag with a desiccant pouch. Since bad news seems to happen only when you are least prepared, does this mean it will never happen to me? Here's hoping...

There is always at least one with me wherever I go. Also, six live in my bathroom, four live in my bedroom and there are several others around the house, plus what is in my gunsafe. No kids in the house.

It makes perfect sense to "get" somebody while he's in the shower. It's easy for an intruder to know you're taking a shower; the light is on in the bathroom and the water is running. He doesn't even have to be inside the house to figure this out. And those who are reluctant to take a gun into the shower for fear of getting it wet likely won't be taking a cell phone anywhere near the water either. So now you can't defend yourself or call for help.
A good solution would be to fasten a kydex holster to the wall or something solid. I'd keep a Glock in it. My Glocks function just fine after being dunked in large puddles at the range during heavy storms. They are very easy to completely disassemble and clean as necessary. I would not want to do this with a good (or even a bad) S&W revolver.

Some interesting posts. I didn't mean in the shower exactly. But when I'm in PJs, or not, I don't have a belt gun on. So one's in the drawer.
Years ago I was watching a PTSD/vet outreach that sugested that if you were the type that always had a loaded weapon withing 3 feet - you probably had the syndrome. After a year overseas I didn't agree with that diagnosis. I thought it was only smart to have defensive weapons around in strategic places.
Since CCW is back in vogue again, I see my orriginal thoughts are once again valid. They don't classify you just cause you've got firearms all over the house. Well, that doesn't necessarily hold true in NJ, but I'll deal with it.

I can kind of relate. I feel "naked" if I'm not at least in reach of a firearm. I carry concealed anywhere and everywhere I am legally able. I don't care if I'm going 2 miles down the street to the store, I carry a gun. The only reason I don't keep a gun in my bathroom is it takes a while to get to my house, up my 200 yard long driveway with a "beeper" alarm, and it's not like someone is gonna be able to roll up on me while I'm dropping a deuce without me knowing.
I can't blame PTSD either, I was like this before I joined the Army. Just that doing a tour in Iraq as an 11B certainly didn't help my paranoia any. Sometimes I do get that "hypervigilance" thing where I have to look at everyone that is around me and I feel nervous if people are behind me moving around and I can't see what's going on, like in a restaurant.

My gun is typically on my side, in its holster. So, I don't keep one in the library but have one available when reading. We have kids at home and also entertain often enough that I would not want a firearm laying around. In my house, my guns are either holstered to my side or in the locked bed safe...of which all responsible individuals within the household have access to in an emergency.

I've seen a set-up where the person removed the kick-plate panel at the bottom of the sink cabinet and made it so it clipped into place. He kept a stainless revolver laying on the floor behind the panel.

There's always a gun and my cellphone on me or within arm's length. The bathroom is definately no exception. I would not want to be shot in the rear while scrambling for a gun with my pants around my ankles

Although the Heller case puts some of the MA law into question, it would appear that the law says that if there is a gun in the house not locked up, it had better go into the bathroom when the permitholder does.
I can live with that.

I do not, but I generally take one along for the visit...
I do have one right here in my computer room, though...
A Brazillian Contract DA .45 ACP revolver, with 3 extra moons...

as others have said, I have firearms within easy reach pretty much all the time.
Just my blood pressure meds get me up about every 2 hrs at night. So I want something in the room when I'm in there.

I'm considering a bathroom/target range combo. I figure with the time I spend in there I could practice my sitting position draw. The ventilation should be adequate, with what is has dealt with so far, lead fumes should be no problem. The mirrors should give me a good side view to check my presentation form. Seriously, I have been working on carrying around the house, so the gun should follow me into the bathroom. Like someone said, If I'm in the living room and an intruder gets between me and where ever I store my gun, I'm SOL anyway. So carrying in the bathroom gets my vote.

You must have been one of the carpenters that worked on our home remodel in 1996! I modified cabinet kick plates in different rooms in the mid 80's but lost them when new cabinets were installed throughout the house. After the remodel I created new hideout cubbies that were more strategically located and had faster access.

I missed what you were talking about till you said sitting position.
I figure half the time the bathroom is always available as a shooting range. But I was thinking standing.
But seriously my point was that that was one of the most vulnerable rooms in the house. And it was the harshest(sp) enviornments for long term firearms storage. So I wanted to see how others handled the situation.

Wow, I guess ive never really thought of that, and its kind of embarassing! Nearest gun is quite a ways away, but with the wifey home she has the closest access and would take care of the problem quickly! Some of you guys are SAVAGES, got more guns than a gun store, and im truly jealous!

PDL, you must have seen the family version of the War Wagon. When I saw it at the theater back in the 60s. Lomax was wearing only a gunbelt.
This thread made me think of the guy in the outhouse in Unforgiven, and Big Jake's shower scene.

Talk about shootin' the poop!
I'll have to show this thread to my wife. She initially thought I was crazy for keeping a gun in the bathroom. At least I'm not the only one.

No. If I am home alone I don't close the bathroom door..so if I heard an intruder trying to get in, I would jump off the bowl and run to the bedroom and grab my gun....when he sees me standing with my pants around my ankles, he will most likely laugh..garnering more sympathy from the jury after I empty my gun.
