Self Defense Incident in Va Beach
In light of the post regarding the GA Self Defense, here is a report on a break-in which occured close to me, and fortunately the homeowner was prepared. Shows it can happen anywhere.

I'm just waiting for the " He didn't have to shoot him. All he was doin' was breaking into the house." Or " Why couldn't he just shoot him in the leg or something?" line we always seem to get around here.

Unless it was a squid then the locals would push for the death penalty, even after he was shot dead. If there is one area of the country who's economy so heavily depended on the military, and yet they still treat the military like trash.

Back in the early '70s when I was in the Army that's what it was like anywhere there was a military base. Soldiers/sailors/airmen/marines were treated like garbage despite the fact that they totally supported the local economy. I imagine that some things never change.

I suspect there’s more to this story...
If I had to shoot an armed intruder in my home, I sure wouldn’t load him into my car and drive him to a fire station. 911 would be on the line ASAP and I’d keep the crime scene undisturbed. I wouldn’t approach or touch the BG for any reason.

I have not heard that it was the shooter that carried him to the Fire Station. By other news reports, he had an acquaintance- accomplice?- that took him there and left him. I have not heard they have found the other guy yet.

Tell me about it. When I was stationed in Norfolk, in the 80's I thought my friends were full of it when they told me to look for the lawn signs that read "Dog's and Sailor's, keep off the grass" then I saw them walking up Granby and couldn't believe it. Then I got orders to Charleston and it was like culture shock, the people supported and actually went out of their way to help out the military guys.
I remember during Desert Shield/Storm the Norfolk/VA Beach area economy lost over 250 million $ in the first 6 month's and they still treated us like trash

Interesting. I had heard bad things about Norfolk since I entered the Navy in 1963, yet when I was stationed there in 1978 it seemed like a pretty nice place. Even (??) the police seemed pretty reasonable towards sailors.
Maybe it's a tarheel thing (I was partly raised in Ardmore).
