Ayoob addresses this in an article in Combat Hqndguns (Feb '12), says that even when someone is shot behind the lateral line- in other words, in the back- it is still feasible to be determined a 'good shoot.' He says there are case precedents in which a BG was shot a couple times, and the defender kept firing cause the BG didn't go down. Between closing the eyes, blinking etc, the shooter COULD VERY POSSIBLY have not noticed when the BG turned enough- and the shooter couldn't stop his trigger finger in time- to avoid hitting him in the back. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying shoot em in the back- only that there are circumstances where you won't necessarily be convicted of it- I would suggest reading HIS words, not relying on mine- he's the one that testified in the cases. Lol
It is somehow comforting to know that this is possible...but he also says the cost of a defense like that could easily exceed $100,000.

while i like your post, I can say that I know of an incidence where a home invasion took place while people where home at night time hours. ME and 5 other family members (dad grandma grandpa aunt uncle) and honestly no body knew there was a break in for a few hours. they came in through an open window stole what they wanted and left. it was night time maybe 10pm but we were all awake in the family room. needless to say there are security bars on the windows and doors at the house now.

I truly feel sorry for anyone who invades the home of any member of this forum. I really do.

Home security is the key here. If someone feels they can walk through all of the "this is a bad idea" warning signs on the way to my front door and still thinks it is a good idea to come in my house to try and do me or my family harm they are in for a world of hurt.
As you walk up to my drive, there is a sticker on the back of my truck that reads, "Insured by Smith and Wesson", as your eyes travel upward, I have a gun rack in the back window of my truck. Walking up to my gate I have a sign "NO Trespassing". Below that, "Beware of OWNER". I have a lock on my gate. If you get past my gate you will see a German Shep that for some reason HATES everyone but me. If you get past him, there is a door mat that states, "LEAVE". On the door I have a sign that reads, "If you can read this you are in deep ****". If you get past my locked door you will be greeted by a Bull mastiff and a Rot. I have trained both of them to trap intruders and not let them move, much less leave. If an intruder gets past them, there is something special for them next which I will not release on the web. If their skin is still attached to their body at this point I am awake and probably grumpy and mad with a 12ga. with 5 rounds of special shells loaded with rock salt and a .45 at my waist. When my door opens, well we will just say your day will get alot worse. I will not go further as to say exactly what will happen to the intruder but no one will hear them scream. Meeting their maker will be the only thing they wish they could to do. As far as consequences go, This is my home, They ignored all warning signs, I have every RIGHT now to do what ever I want the stop the situation from progressing. I will call the police to come clean up the pieces. I have a great 2nd ammendment lawyer ready to do battle with the court. The only words out of my mouth to the police is "I cannot talk to you right now, i need to talk to my lawyer before I speak with you" THAT IS ALL.
